Voyager Technologies is seeking a Manufacturing Development Quality Engineer to support pre-manufacturing quality efforts within an energetics manufacturing environment, including explosives, propellants, pyrotechnics, and related energetic materials. This role owns quality activities from concept through first article acceptance testing, translating Q-notes, Quality Assurance Provisions, CDRLs, SDRLs, and other customer-specific requirements into robust inspection plans, pre and post-production documentation, and acceptance criteria before a program transitions to a floor-level Quality Engineer for production support. The position requires strong documentation discipline, attention to detail, and a high level of safety awareness, and is critical to ensuring new products and processes enter manufacturing with the quality foundation needed for safety, reliability, and compliance.
Responsibilities
- Support the development and implementation of quality systems in compliance with ISO 9001/AS9100, customer specifications, and applicable regulatory requirements (e.g., ATF, DoD, OSHA).
- Read and interpret Q-notes, Quality Assurance Provisions, CDRLs, SDRLs, other customer-specific requirements, and engineering drawings to translate them into clear, actionable inspection plans and acceptance criteria ahead of production.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) efforts for nonconformances and defects identified during pre-production builds and first article activities.
- Assist in drafting manufacturing procedures, inspection instructions, and quality records related to energetics production for review and approval.
- Participate in internal audits and support Quality's role during external audits (customer, regulatory, and certification).
- Track quality data and metrics from pre-production builds to identify trends and flag risks before a program transition to full-rate manufacturing.
- Own new programs and engineering changes from concept through first article acceptance testing, coordinating with Engineering and Manufacturing to ensure requirements are understood and met.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Program Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, EHS, and Supply Chain to ensure quality requirements are built into the product from the start.
- Support supplier quality activities, including incoming inspection criteria and supplier corrective actions, for new or changing components.
- Support failure investigations, material review boards (MRB), and risk assessments (e.g., FMEA, PFMEA, DFMEA) during development and first article stages.
- Prepare and hand off complete first article inspection packages and documentation to the floor-level Quality Engineer to ensure a smooth transition into production.
- Ensure strict adherence to safety, security, and handling requirements for energetic materials, and support a strong safety culture within the team.
