The Opportunity
Vermilion is seeking a Sr. Surface Land Coordinator to join our Canadian Business Unit as a key partner to our asset teams, brokers, landowners, regulators and other stakeholders, ensuring surface land programs move efficiently and responsibly. This is an opportunity for an experienced land professional to take ownership of a diverse portfolio of surface land activities, from acquisitions and regulatory compliance to capital program coordination and A&D support.
Reporting to the Manager, Surface Land and Indigenous Relations in Calgary, the successful candidate work alongside multidisciplinary teams and trusted external partners to help deliver safe, responsible, and efficient energy development.
What you will do
- Area coordination with external brokers for all Freehold and Crown acquisitions of surface leases, easements / pipelines, and facilities, with a majority of the development plans located on Crown land.
- Receive, audit, and clear land acquisition packages; including the completion of third-party documentation and request road use cheques where required
- May require data input, updates, and maintaining surface acquisitions in CS Explorer
- Close communications with asset team manager, facility engineers, drilling engineers and field construction representatives. This includes visibility and attendance to asset team meetings, scout and survey meetings.
- Maintenance of internal tracking systems for capital programs
- Communicate compliancy and address surface related audits
- Coordinate rental reviews, tribunal notices and / or freehold challenges that arise
- Request cheques where applicable and code / approve third party invoices
- Approval and communications of larger road use files and users
- Responsible for cost accruals and related cost controls (i.e. Survey, Environmental and Land)
- Act as the point of contact for A&D deals as it relates to surface land
- Occasional travel to field locations will be required
What you will bring
- A diploma or certification in a land program, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 15 years of combined experience within oil and gas surface land administration and coordination, with Alberta Crown being primary area of expertise
- Land broker experience considered valuable
- Interim or permanent land agent license
- Proficiency with CS Explorer and related processes
- Experience with Stackdx, Abadata, SAP, Open Invoice, Optix and Energylink
- Exposure to Indigenous relations and consultations
- Experience handling pre-and-post-close surface acquisition & divestiture work
- Strong communication skills with a collaborative approach, working across multi-disciplinary teams.
