Primary Function:
The Commercial Account Director is the senior commercial leader responsible for the strategic ownership and growth of Dashiell's key utility accounts across the Eastern United States, encompassing both existing relationships and new business development. This role builds and leads Dashiell's utility-focused commercial operations group, driving regional account strategy, executive-level customer relationships, and disciplined commercial execution across HV/MV substations, transmission lines, and BESS projects. The position will be based in our Raleigh, NC office located at 11000 Regency Pkwy, Suite 107 Cary, NC 27518 and will report to Dashiell's SVP of Commercial Operations.
Duties & Responsibilities
Employee may be called upon to perform any or all of the following functions:
- Own and grow strategic, named key utility accounts across the Eastern US region, serving as the senior commercial relationship executive for existing and target customers.
- Partner with the SVP of Sales and Business Development leadership to define regional account strategy and expand the commercial pipeline across HV/MV substations, transmission, and BESS markets.
- Build, lead, and grow Dashiell's utility-focused commercial operations group, including providing functional direction and mentorship to Commercial Account Managers supporting Eastern region accounts.
- Serve as the senior commercial point of contact for executive-level customer relationships, representing Dashiell in strategic account reviews and leadership-level negotiations.
- Direct the development of complex, high-value commercial proposals, ensuring alignment across engineering, estimating, pre-construction, and construction on scope, risk, and pricing strategy.
- Lead contract negotiations and commercial terms discussions for major account opportunities, in coordination with executive leadership and legal.
- Influence bid/no-bid decision-making and opportunity prioritization for the region, balancing capacity, risk, and strategic account value.
- Oversee opportunity tracking, forecasting, and pipeline reporting for the Eastern region's utility accounts, providing visibility to sales leadership.
- Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Pre-Construction, Construction, Field Services, Procurement, and Finance to ensure proposal accuracy and successful project handoff.
- Identify and develop new account relationships within target utility markets, expanding Dashiell's footprint across the Eastern region.
- Maintain and improve standard proposal content, pricing tools, and account documentation used across the commercial operations group.
- Monitor customer relationship health through project execution, resolve escalations, and identify opportunities to convert current work into future awards.
- Perform special projects and complete other duties as assigned or requested.

- Drive sustained revenue growth across the Eastern region by expanding strategic utility account relationships and converting pursuits into awarded EPC projects.
- Build and strengthen Dashiell's utility-focused commercial operations capability, developing talent and consistent commercial practices across the group.
- Elevate customer relationships at the executive level, positioning Dashiell as a trusted long-term partner to key utility clients.
- Improve commercial discipline and proposal quality across the region by ensuring pricing, scope, and risk are clearly defined before submission.
- Reduce enterprise risk by applying sound judgment to bid/no-bid decisions and contract negotiations on large, complex opportunities.
- Strengthen cross-functional alignment between Sales, Engineering, Pre-Construction, Construction, and Field Services in pursuit of regional growth goals.
Minimum Qualifications / Experience
- Bachelor's degree required (4 years of directly relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree).
- Minimum 10 years of experience in the power or energy infrastructure industry, including direct experience with HV/MV substations, transmission, or BESS projects.
- Minimum 3 years of experience leading, mentoring, or functionally directing other sales or account management professionals.
- Demonstrated track record of managing strategic, named utility accounts and growing a regional book of business.
- Experience with EPC project delivery across the full lifecycle, from pursuit through execution and closeout.
- Experience reviewing RFQs, contracts, and commercial terms to define scope, risk, and pricing strategy for large, complex opportunities.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, one-line diagrams, equipment specifications, and construction documents.
- Proven ability to build and maintain executive-level relationships with utility customers.
- Strong track record of leading contract negotiations and complex commercial discussions.
- Excellent written, verbal, and executive-level presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with Sales, Engineering, Construction, Pre-Construction, Procurement, and Finance leadership.
- Strong organizational, forecasting, and account-planning skills; able to manage a regional portfolio of strategic accounts and active pursuits.
- Proficiency with common business software tools including spreadsheets, CRM systems, and document management platforms.
- Valid driver's license required; must maintain an acceptable driving record throughout employment.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering; an advanced degree in Business or Engineering is a plus.
- PE License or plan to acquire a PE License.
- Prior experience in a sales leadership, account director, or regional commercial leadership role within the power/utility EPC industry.
- Established relationships with Eastern US utility customers.
- Experience with CAD/BIM viewers and engineering document management systems.
Physical Requirements:
- This position requires minimal physical effort.
- Must be able to endure prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer for a minimum of 8 hours a day.
- Must be able and willing to travel approximately 25–50% as required to support customer accounts across the Eastern US region, including overnight travel
- Working extended hours, including weekends, may be required periodically.
- May occasionally lift up to 25 pounds at a time.
