The Department of Writing Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Miami invites applications for a tenure-track/tenure-eligible Open Rank position (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor) in Computational and/or Digital Rhetorics (AI and Writing), to begin August 15, 2027.

We seek a scholar whose research examines the relationships among writing, rhetoric, literacy, and emerging computational technologies, including artificial intelligence. Candidates may work in areas such as digital rhetoric, writing technologies, computational rhetoric, AI and writing, digital humanities, rhetoric of technology, literacy studies, human-centered computing, or related fields. We especially welcome applicants whose work combines theoretical and empirical inquiry with innovative approaches to research, teaching, and program development.

The successful candidate will join a growing Department of Writing Studies and contribute to the University of Miami’s broader investments in artificial intelligence, digital scholarship, and/or the digital humanities. The ideal hire will strengthen interdisciplinary collaborations across the College and University.

The Department of Writing Studies serves students from every college and school at the University of Miami and functions as a University-wide hub for writing and communication development. In addition to housing a large First-Year Writing program serving more than 2,400 students annually, the department offers undergraduate and graduate coursework in rhetoric, writing studies, professional communication, writing technologies, multimodal design, legal writing, civic engagement, and innovation studies. The department also oversees the University Writing Center.

The successful candidate will maintain an active and visible research agenda; teach undergraduate and graduate courses in rhetoric, writing, literacy, and technology; contribute to graduate teacher preparation; and participate in curriculum and program development. Candidates with experience or interest in writing program administration, assessment, digital scholarship, or AI-enhanced educational innovation are especially encouraged to apply. We are particularly interested in scholars who view writing programs, literacy development, and AI-enabled communication as opportunities for nationally significant research and public engagement.
