Responsibilities & Qualifications

Position Overview

The Specialties team in Kennesaw, GA is seeking a Surface Engineering & Corrosion Testing Co-op. This role will support evaluation of aluminum surface treatments and corrosion performance for battery applications through sample preparation, battery-relevant testing, surface characterization before and after testing, and data analysis. This role will be from May 2027 until December 2027.

 

Responsibilities

• Prepare aluminum samples for surface treatment and battery-application testing.
• Support corrosion and battery-relevant testing activities.
• Characterize surfaces before and after testing using microscopy and other materials analysis techniques.
• Track samples, test matrices, and results.
• Analyze data, summarize findings, and recommend next steps.

 

Minimum qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

• Sophomore, junior, or senior undergraduate student enrolled in an accredited 4-year university.
• Strong analytical, laboratory, data analysis, and documentation skills.
• Must be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer.

 

Preferred qualifications

• Interest in materials science, surface engineering, corrosion science, electrochemistry, metallurgy, battery materials, or analytical chemistry.
• Experience with sample preparation, materials testing, chemical handling, or test coordination.
• Experience using characterization tools such as SEM, optical microscopy, ICP/OES, XPS, profilometry, or related techniques to evaluate surfaces before and after testing.
• Strong communication skills and ability to organize data, interpret results, and summarize technical findings.
