Position Summary
The Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) evaluates, recommends, configures, delivers, and supports complex rehabilitation technology (CRT), durable medical equipment (DME), mobility equipment, seating, positioning systems, and related assistive technology. The ATP works directly with patients, caregivers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, physicians, case managers, referral sources, and payer representatives to provide safe, medically appropriate, and reimbursable equipment solutions.
This role is responsible for the technical and clinical coordination of complex power mobility and manual mobility cases, including power wheelchairs, custom seating and positioning, pressure-relief systems, specialty controls, and related accessories. The ATP must maintain a patient-centered approach while ensuring compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, manufacturer requirements, and company quality standards.

Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-person patient assessments, equipment trials, home evaluations, and mobility evaluations in coordination with treating clinicians.
- Review prescriptions, physician documentation, therapy evaluations, and functional needs to recommend medically necessary DME and CRT solutions.
- Measure and assess clients for seating, positioning, power mobility, manual mobility, pressure management, postural support, and specialty drive-control needs.
- Select, configure, and justify appropriate mobility equipment, including power wheelchairs, manual wheelchairs, seating systems, cushions, backs, tilt/recline systems, elevating leg rests, power seat elevation, and related accessories.
- Participate directly and in person in the selection of complex rehabilitation power mobility devices when required for payer and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with occupational therapists, physical therapists, physicians, rehabilitation facilities, home-health agencies, long-term-care facilities, case managers, and caregivers.
- Complete accurate clinical notes, equipment specifications, home-accessibility findings, letters of medical necessity support, and required payer documentation.
- Work with the company's documentation, authorization, billing, and customer-service teams to address missing clinical information, denials, appeals, and funding requirements.
- Coordinate equipment ordering, delivery, setup, fitting, programming, adjustment, and patient/caregiver training.
- Perform final delivery checks to verify safe operation, appropriate fit, proper positioning, and patient understanding of use, charging, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting.
- Identify equipment adjustment, repair, or replacement needs and coordinate service support as appropriate.
- Maintain productive relationships with referral sources and represent the company professionally in clinics, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, long-term-care settings, and patients' homes.
- Stay current on Medicare, DC Medicaid, managed-care, manufacturer, RESNA, accreditation, and DMEPOS quality standards relevant to the position.
- Maintain ATP credential, continuing education, required licenses, driving eligibility, and company compliance training.
- Meet established productivity, documentation-quality, patient-satisfaction, and revenue-cycle goals without compromising patient care or compliance.
Qualifications:
- Current RESNA Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) certification.
- Experience in DME, CRT, rehabilitation technology, wheelchair seating and mobility, occupational therapy, physical therapy, rehabilitation engineering, or a related field.
- Knowledge of complex power mobility devices, manual wheelchairs, custom seating, positioning components, cushions, backs, and mobility accessories.
- Ability to evaluate functional mobility, seating, positioning, environmental access, and safe equipment operation.
- Strong written documentation skills and ability to prepare complete equipment recommendations and payer-supporting documentation.
- Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel throughout the DC metropolitan service territory.
- Ability to safely lift, move, assemble, and transport equipment and components, generally up to 50 pounds with assistance or appropriate equipment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work compassionately with individuals with disabilities, families, caregivers, and clinical professionals.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CRTS credential or willingness to obtain it.
- Licensure or prior professional background as an OT, OTA, PT, PTA, rehabilitation clinician, rehab technician, or rehab engineer.
- Experience with Medicare and Medicaid documentation for Group 2 and Group 3 power wheelchairs and custom seating systems.
- Experience with DC Medicaid, Maryland Medicaid, Virginia Medicaid, managed-care plans, and commercial insurers.
- Existing referral relationships in Washington, DC, Maryland, or Northern Virginia.
- Bilingual English/Spanish communication ability.
Pay: $ $175-$275 - Per Complex Evaluation
Job Types: PRN or Fulltime - Field-based; travel throughout Washington, DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia as needed.
