S&P Global Ratings' Financial Services practice delivers forward-looking credit insights across banks, insurers, and other financial institutions — assessing capital strength, funding and liquidity, asset quality, and governance to inform rating opinions that markets rely on and to help stakeholders understand how evolving risks, from macro shifts to digital assets and decentralized finance, affect financial stability and credit performance. The EMEA Financial Services team spans more than 150 analysts across nine regional offices. As Sector Lead for EMEA Financial Services/Financial Institutions (European Union), you will be the senior analytical voice on European banking and financial sector risk, driving thought leadership and analytical consistency across the practice.
What You'll Do
Impact
You will shape how investors, regulators, and markets understand credit risk across the European financial institutions sector. Your thought leadership will define sector narratives, your engagement with the European Central Bank and senior regulators will reinforce S&P Global Ratings' credibility, and your mentorship will build the analytical talent that sustains long-term excellence across the team.
Responsibilities
- Act as the primary analytical spokesperson and counterpart for the Continental European financial institutions ecosystem — including the European Central Bank, regulators, institutional investors, and major media — delivering high-profile presentations on banking, non-bank financials, and emerging areas such as decentralized finance and neobanks.
- Lead thought-leading research on European banking trends and systemic risk; chair the regional Analytical Oversight Credit Committee, define strategic portfolio reviews, and set annual analytical priorities grounded in data-driven analysis and forward-looking market insights.
Leadership & Talent Development
- Coach and mentor analysts as a senior role model, strengthening sector expertise, credit judgment, and AI-enabled analytical capabilities; collaborate across sectors, regions, and asset classes to share best practices and promote global analytical consistency.
Core Analytical & Delivery
- Lead forward-looking, market-relevant sector analysis, translating sector and issuer developments into differentiated, decision-ready insights using data, advanced analytics, and AI-enabled tools for both internal and external audiences.
Stakeholder & Market Engagement
- Represent S&P Global Ratings' analytical perspective with objectivity and integrity across high-profile stakeholder engagements; partner with Methodology teams and participate in global forums to strengthen consistent criteria application and share market insights that improve analytical practices.
Risk Management & Operations
- Connect sector developments to forward-looking risk themes, producing insights that inform monitoring activities, research, and rating committee discussions.
What We're Looking For
Required Skills and Experience
- An S&P Global employee at this level would typically have 10+ years of relevant experience in credit analysis, financial research, or analytical leadership in financial services.
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex financial and market developments into concise, evidence-based narratives and to engage investors, regulators, and management teams on complex analytical topics with clarity and rigor.
- Demonstrated experience coaching and mentoring analytical teams, with a track record of building sector expertise, credit judgment, and modern analytical capabilities.
- English: Fluent (able to conduct meetings, collaborate effectively, and communicate clearly in writing and verbally) — Required. Primary language of the country of application (German, French, Italian, Spanish, or Swedish): Fluent (able to conduct meetings, collaborate effectively, and communicate clearly in writing and verbally) — Required.
Preferred or Helpful Experience
- Experience with AI-enabled analytical tools and data-driven research methodologies in a credit analysis or financial research context.
- Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent required. A master's degree or professional certification (such as CFA) is highly valued. We welcome candidates from traditional finance disciplines as well as diverse academic backgrounds that support innovative and critical thinking.
Additional Information
- We require all candidates who reach the final stage of our interview process to attend at least one in-person interview, which is ordinarily at your nearest S&P Global Ratings office. This must be completed before we can proceed to an offer.
