Description
As the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Trilon South, you will lead the strategic and operational transformation of the region. This role goes beyond traditional operations – it is central to defining, executing, and scaling business maturity and performance across functions, firms, and markets. The Region COO will lead initiatives to connect strategy, people, process, and financial performance to drive scalable, profitable growth and long-term value creation.
The executive will be both a strategic architect and executional leader, partnering closely with the CEO, Region Partner Presidents, CFO, CTO, CPO and other senior leaders to accelerate growth, enable integration and value creation, and build an enduring, high-performance region.
Reporting directly to the Region CEO, the COO will serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and is responsible for driving business performance. The COO is a member of the Region Executive Team (RET) and peer role to the Region CFO, CTO, CPO, and Partner Presidents.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning & Execution
- Translate Trilon’s platform strategy into actionable steps for growth across functions, firms, and business units.
- Ensure clarity and alignment on strategy at all organizational levels — from executive teams to frontline employees — enabling staff to understand how their work connects to the broader mission.
- Drive execution of special strategic initiatives including cross-sell/upsell strategies, brand recognition, pricing standardization, market/service expansion, insourcing, and resource sharing.
- Establish and monitor KPIs across firms to measure execution success and strategic alignment.
Operational Excellence & Business Model Maturity
- Build and scale core operating processes, systems, and cadences — including standard operating procedures (SOPs), tools, dashboards, and business review structures.
- Mature and institutionalize business management disciplines including gross margin optimization, merit timing, organizational design, and project governance.
- Partner with firm leadership to implement performance reporting and accountability systems that drive EBITA and financial outcomes.
Financial Performance
- Collaborate with the Platform Presidents and other key stakeholders to evaluate financial performance, market strategies, hiring plans, and growth strategies.
- Manage cost discipline and return on investment across capital and operational initiatives.
- Support financial operations by implementing forecasting, budgeting, and performance management tools at the firm and platform levels.
- Embed financial acumen across operational teams to drive continuous margin and performance improvement.
M&A Leadership & Platform Integration
- Work closely with Corporate Development to evaluate acquisition targets aligned to platform strategy.
- Spearhead post-close integration efforts, driving synergy realization, cultural alignment, and unified systems, tools, and reporting.
- Ensure every acquisition creates and executes measurable impact against underwriting targets and strategic growth goals, resulting in a Value Creation Plan.
Organizational Effectiveness & Alignment
- Develop and deploy technology-enabled solutions that improve visibility, collaboration, and scalability.
- Work with CEO and PET to standardize and systematize key operational levers — org structure, incentive reward programs, pricing, and decision-making models — throughout the platform.
- Facilitate business reviews, project tracking, and intra-platform collaboration to ensure alignment and progress on top strategic priorities.
PeopleFirst Culture & Leadership
- Partner with Platform CPO to translate platform strategy into a compelling and human-centered vision that inspires team engagement and performance.
- Build and reinforce a people-first culture that drives high volume and velocity recruiting, retention, accountability, productivity, and pride.
- Promote leadership development, cultural alignment, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Empower local teams while ensuring consistent operating norms and performance standards.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Demonstrated progressive experience in operations, strategy, or general management — ideally within a platform business or private equity-backed environment.
- Proven success in executing business transformations, building performance management systems, and leading multi-site or multi-entity organizations.
- Track record of executing operational due diligence and post-acquisition integration.
- Strong analytical mindset and financial acumen — able to link process improvements and human capital strategies directly to financial outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience in building and leading cross-functional operating systems, SOPs, and scalable business infrastructure.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and build consensus across varied stakeholders.
- Strategic thinker with a pragmatic, results-driven operating style.
- High EQ, IQ, and aptitude leader who builds trusted relationships and influences without formal authority.
- Entrepreneurial and adaptable, with a bias for action and accountability.
- Strong communicator — capable of synthesizing complexity into clarity for diverse audiences.
- Excels in dynamic, high-growth environments where the ability to lead through change is essential.
- Experience in architecture, engineering and construction (AEC), particularly engineering consulting, is strongly preferred. We will also consider leaders from adjacent professional or technical services businesses who bring relevant operational leadership, financial acumen and experience driving change across multiple teams or businesses.
