Description
The Custodial & Landscaping Assistant supports the Physical Plant Specialists in maintaining the outdoor spaces across campus. This position focuses on landscaping, groundskeeping, and general exterior upkeep to ensure campus grounds are safe, clean, and visually welcoming for students, staff, and visitors.
This is a part-time Federal Work-Study position, with no more than 20 hours per week.
The Student Worker provides temporary, part-time support to Klamath Community College departments through a variety of administrative, operational, academic, technical, customer service, or program-related activities. Duties will vary based on the needs of the department and the specific position.
This is a temporary, as-needed/scheduled position of up to 20 hours per week. There is no guaranteed minimum number of hours, and actual hours worked will vary based on departmental needs, student availability, and the established work schedule.
Student Workers are expected to perform assigned duties responsibly, maintain confidentiality as appropriate, provide professional and courteous service, and follow Klamath Community College policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.

Empty trash and recycling bins and replace liners as needed
Assist with routine landscaping tasks including mowing, trimming, edging, and weeding
Help maintain lawns, flower beds, shrubs, and trees across campus grounds
Rake leaves, remove debris, and maintain clean walkways, parking areas, and outdoor spaces
Assist with irrigation tasks such as watering plants and monitoring sprinkler systems
Support seasonal grounds work
Operate basic landscaping tools and equipment safely (e.g., mowers, trimmers, blowers)
Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of tools and equipment
Follow and enforce all KCC policies and procedures
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with outdoor event setup, including arranging tables, tents, or equipment
Help with minor exterior maintenance tasks and report any damages or hazards
Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Must be currently enrolled at Klamath Community College (KCC).
Must have completed the FAFSA for 2026-2027 academic year and been determined eligible for Federal Work Study.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS ROLE
Basic knowledge of cleaning procedures and safe chemical handling
Basic knowledge of landscaping or groundskeeping practices
Ability to safely operate or learn to operate landscaping tools and equipment
Strong attention to detail to maintain clean and well-kept outdoor spaces
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in an outdoor environment
Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions
Must be a currently enrolled KCC student, enrolled in 6 or more credits, and in good academic standing.
Must be 18 years of age or older to be employed at Klamath Community College.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Ability to lift and carry up to 25–50 pounds frequently
Extended periods of standing, walking, and working outdoors
Ability to bend, kneel, reach, and perform repetitive physical tasks
Ability to work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and light precipitation
