Job Summary: The Vice President of Lending provides leadership and direction for all consumer lending, residential mortgage lending, and collections functions of the Credit Union. This role is responsible for driving portfolio growth, managing credit risk, ensuring regulatory compliance, and overseeing lending operations, collections activities, and team development to deliver exceptional member service. The position works closely with the Chief Lending Officer to execute strategic initiatives, optimize lending processes, and achieve organizational goals while maintaining a safe and sound lending program.
This position is in office with the capability of remote work at times.
Requirements
Job Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related field or equivalent professional experience preferred. Minimum seven years of progressive lending experience within a financial institution, preferably in a credit union environment. Minimum three years of leadership experience overseeing consumer lending, residential mortgage lending, and collections functions.
Essential Functions:
- Direct the daily operations of the Consumer Lending, Mortgage Lending, and Collections departments.
- Implement and execute lending strategies that support portfolio growth, profitability, and member satisfaction.
- Monitor departmental performance and recommend process improvements to enhance effectiveness and member experience.
- Monitor lending trends, market conditions, and competitive factors to identify opportunities for growth and process improvement.
- Recommend and implement new loan products, services, and delivery channels to meet member needs.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, NCUA regulations, and Credit Union policies.
- Maintain knowledge of regulations including the Truth in Lending Act, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, Home Mortgage Disclosure Act, SAFE Act, and Bank Secrecy Act.
- Assist with examinations, audits, and compliance reviews.
- Monitor underwriting quality, policy exceptions, and portfolio trends and recommend corrective action when necessary.
- Promote sound lending practices and prudent risk management throughout all lending operations.
- Monitor department goals, service standards, productivity metrics, and portfolio performance.
- Prepare and present lending and collections reports to the Chief Lending Officer.
- Recommend operational improvements that enhance efficiency, service, and portfolio performance.
- Lead, mentor, and develop lending and collections management staff.
- Establish performance expectations and accountability measures.
- Foster a positive work environment focused on teamwork, member service, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
- Facilitate ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
Skills/Abilities/Knowledge:
- Thorough knowledge of consumer and mortgage lending principles, underwriting, servicing, and collections.
- Strong understanding of NCUA regulations and federal lending compliance requirements.
- Proven ability to analyze credit, financial statements, portfolio performance, and risk metrics.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to effectively present information to executive leadership, committees, and regulators.
- Proficiency with lending systems, loan origination platforms, and Microsoft Office applications.
Mental & Physical Requirements: Requires sitting 6-8 hours a day; Stress related to important decisions. Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include weekends and occasional after hours, as necessary.
