Are you passionate about barbering and excited to inspire the next generation of professionals? Ogden-Weber Technical College (OTECH) is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Barbering Instructor to join our learning community. Guided by our core values of Community, Learning, Integrity, and Excellence, this role provides technical instruction to students enrolled in the barbering program while helping them build the skills, confidence, and professionalism needed for career success. Instruction may include barbering techniques such as the fundamentals of hair cutting, shaving, mustache and beard design, and the related theory required to obtain a state license. In addition to classroom and hands-on instruction, the Barbering Instructor will verify student competencies, support student advisement and retention efforts, maintain accurate student records, and foster strong relationships with area employers to ensure students are prepared to meet industry needs and expectations.

This position works under the direction of the Barber Instructor /Coordinator and the Program Manager.



  1. Provide students with technical instruction in a safe, clean and productive learning environment.
  2. Administer and correct tests; maintain progress and attendance on students.
  3. Advance the retention of students in support of achieving program membership hour goals. 
  4. Assist students with job placement and applicable industry or state certifications/licenses in support of meeting program placement and certification goals.
  5. Maintain contact with area employers; elicit feedback regarding curricula and industry trends.
  6. Develop annual professional development plan and participate in professional development activities.
  7. Motivate and advise students in the areas of appropriate work behavior, training, or study habits.  Assist      counselors, supervisor, and other staff as necessary to resolve issues affecting student training.
  8. Follow the daily operational direction and schedule of the Lead Instructor/Coordinator.
  9. Be available to work as scheduled, including evenings, to support all the program operating hours.
  10. Encourage and exemplify professionalism and good work habits.
  11. Support programmatic and College marketing activities.
  12. Work cooperatively within the College community. 
  13. Control the use of equipment and supplies; recommend purchases.
  14. The incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements: 

  1. High School diploma or equivalent
  2. Current cosmetology/barbering license required. Preference will be given to those individuals that hold a cosmetology/barbering instructor license.
  3. Minimum of one year of documented practical cosmetology experience or required on the job training to obtain instructor license. 
  4. Preference will be given to those individuals who have salon/teaching experience.
  5. Proficient in using computers, computer technology, and computer software related to position.

 

Physical Requirements: 

1. Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand long periods, bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 20 lbs.) when doing inventory or receiving supplies.
2. Risks which require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g., scissors, razors, clippers, cleaning Chemicals, etc.

HOURS:

Morning Instructor: 9:00 AM - Approx 2:00 PM
