Brooklyn Public Library's Adult Learning Program is seeking an Adult Literacy Education instructor who is a dedicated, experienced, and skilled ABE, HSE, and ESOL instructor to prepare participants for the workforce, GED exam.

All instructors are expected to be passionate instructors with good interpersonal skills committed to empowering adult learning participant to meet their needs. Classroom instruction incorporates self-paced, computerized instruction, small group learning exercises, videos, and provides classroom instruction in a variety of fields at specifically lower levels (TABE levels 1 & 2) and higher levels TABE 5 & 6). The ability to develop contextualized lessons using extensive writing and reading practice in the content areas of science and social studies using a standardized curriculum for each program area. We are seeking someone who is passionate about making a difference in their community by developing adults to their fullest potential.

This is a grant funded opportunity through June 30, 2027. The workweek is up to 19 hours per week @ $40 per hour.

Responsibilities:

· Provide ABE, ESOL, and HSE instruction for beginning and higher level adult participants (depending on class) to develop skills in speaking, listening, reading, writing, and math

· Provide high-quality theme based instruction to help participants develop their reading, writing, math, speaking, and listening skills

· Develop and implement student centered lesson plans based on participant’s need that engage participants and assist them in navigating the activities of their lives

· Administer BEST Plus and/or TABE assessments

· Monitor records of each participant and progress; produce progress reports as needed and quarterly course overviews

· Communicate with participants regarding upcoming events, absenteeism, etc.

· Participate in professional development, staff meetings and work as a team member with program assistants, case managers and other program staff to deliver effective programming that motivates participants and succeed in the program

· Evaluate and conference participants on their progress mid-term and end of term Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree required; certificate or Master’s degree in teaching English to adults of other languages preferred

Applicants with experience teaching low level ABE and/or ESOL (min. of 2 years)

Experienced teachers

Certified administrator of Best Plus and TABE or willing to become certified

Ability to connect with adult learning population
