Description

- Clean runs, cages, and equipment daily in accordance with shelter protocol and in compliance with state regulations.
- Perform general janitorial and ground maintenance duties.
- Keep all equipment and tools in a neat and orderly manner and in good working condition.
- Feed, water, and perform general care of impounded animals.
- Perform or assist with administering vaccinations to impounded animals.
- Monitor animal population for illness or injury and administer medication as needed in accordance with shelter protocols or at the order of the veterinarian.
- Meet with members of the public conducting business with the shelter.
- Process shelter-related paperwork as needed.
- Assist with special events, media promotion, and shelter events.
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Some experience performing heavy manual work is preferred.
- Experience working in an animal shelter environment is preferred.
- Knowledge of animal breeds and animal handling techniques.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including holidays and weekends, often on an on-call basis.
Environmental Conditions: Work is performed indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, cleaning chemicals, hazardous drugs, animal waste, odors, noise, aggressive or fractious animals, and animals that may be sick, injured, or deceased. The position may also involve exposure to emotionally difficult or traumatic situations involving animals.
