UWM’s 12-week long summer internship program, located at our headquarters in Pontiac, MI, is an immersive experience that allows you to gain exposure to different career paths through role shadowing, expanding your network, contributing to community outreach efforts, and continuing to build both existing and new skill sets. The Information Technology (IT) team at UWM supports the organization by managing and maintaining the technological infrastructure, developing and implementing software solutions, ensuring high levels of quality and security, and providing technical support to enhance business operations and efficiency.
As a Technology Summer Team Member, you will play a vital role working alongside one of our many Technology Teams. In this role, you’ll utilize your skillset to help develop and enhance our in-house, industry-leading technology. Our technology allows our clients to succeed with industry-first applications, tools and support. You’ll also work on a summer-long project where you’ll collaborate alongside students with backgrounds & passions in various areas within Technology.

Our roles are fully on-site in Pontiac, MI. We do not offer any remote or hybrid work.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
- Build practical experience using innovative technologies and programming languages, including C#, React, Kafka, Vue.js, Swift, Java, and many others.
- Learn object-oriented programming and the software development life cycle (if placed with Application/Product Development)
- Help perform vulnerability assessments and review, develop, test and implement security plans (if placed within Cybersecurity)
- Participate in cohort project with other Summer Team Members, developing and designing team specific tasks, executing project work, and delivering progress presentations.
- Participate in project focused Scrum rituals (standup, refinement, planning, retrospective).
- Make connections with students from other schools
- Develop and present business initiatives to technology leaders
- Apply your skills and talents to improving processes and workflow
- Share ideas, offer suggestions and make an impact
- Participate in fun off-site team-building activities
- Play an important role in giving back to the community with a charity project that you help shape and execute
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
- Graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 2027 or 2028 (current junior/senior status)
- The ability to work Monday through Friday, 40-hours a week, fully on-site in Pontiac, MI from May 17th to August 6th (we do not offer any relocation assistance)
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and excellent time management skills
- Ability to both thrive in a team environment and effectively work independently to complete assignments on time
- Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to receive and apply feedback
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills while being comfortable in a fast-moving environment
- The ability to multitask and demonstrate adaptability and forward thinking in the face of technological or organizational change
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate complex technical issues and solutions in a clear, simple, and understandable way
