Job Description:

WHAT - Summary & Purpose of the Position

Reporting to the Head of Hematology, the Director, Medical Affairs, is responsible for leading and overseeing key medical affairs activities related to the US oncology portfolio. This role will contribute to the U.S. medical strategy for hematology assets currently in development. While primarily focused on myelofibrosis, the role may also support other indications including AML as needed. This role serves as a primary medical and scientific leader for the therapeutic area, providing guidance to internal and external stakeholders and ensuring alignment across cross-functional teams.

The Director leads the development and execution of the US Medical Affairs strategy and overall medical plan for myelofibrosis. Key responsibilities include leading Medical Strategic Team activities, advisory board planning and execution, and cross functional collaboration to ensure integration of medical strategies. Responsibilities include oversight of the medical review of non-promotional and promotional content, ensuring accurate, timely responses to medical information requests (in collaboration with Medical Information), scientific communications materials including poster presentations and publications (in conjunction with the Publication/Medical Communications team), the design and medical monitoring of US-based clinical studies including assessing investigator sponsored study requests, and the review of educational grants.

The Director will work closely with the Field Medical Directors and field Training, Insights, and Analytics Lead to guide field medical strategy, develop and manage relationships with key opinion and national and/or regional Thought leaders (TLs), and incorporate field insights into medical planning. This includes assessing investigator sponsored study requests, supporting internal and external training through knowledge transfer, and ensuring accurate, timely responses to medical information requests, to ensure customers are well-informed about Ipsen's Oncology products and therapeutic areas.

Key internal partners include US Medical Affairs and Clinical Operations teams, the Oncology commercial team, and global Oncology franchise medical personnel.

WHAT - Main Responsibilities & Technical Competencies

  • Through Medical Affairs Information and the MSL team, ensure the development and dissemination of medically sound information to support the safe and effective use of assigned Oncology assets in accordance with Ipsen and regulatory guidelines.
  • Contribute to develop and implement medical strategies that align with organizational and medical strategy team (MST) goals and objectives
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders and external stakeholders to gather insights and inform medical strategy.
  • Serve as subject matter expert (SME) SME, on medical and/or disease area and asset cross-functional committees, providing medical and scientific leadership to cross functional teams, as appropriate
  • With the field medical team, ensure that insights are integrated to inform strategy and execution
  • Support clinical research projects, including the design, execution, and analysis of clinical trials.
  • Contribute to and lead advisory board planning and execution activities as assigned.
  • Ensure appropriate scientific, disease, and Ipsen product training for the MSL team and other internal partners, in collaboration with Knowledge Transfer.
  • Review and approval of promotional and medical materials in PRC and MRC, respectively
  • Identify needs and provide directions on the development of proactive and reactive field medical materials (e.g., FAQs, scientific narratives, advisory board content) in collaboration with field teams.
  • Provide medical input and oversee budgets for independent educational grants, in coordination with the Grants Manager
  • In collaboration with Medical Communications and Publications, lead the development high-quality scientific and educational materials (e.g. field medical slide decks, FAQs, training materials, advisory board content)
  • Lead medical congress strategy and execution, including scientific exchange and congress coverage
  • Attend relevant congresses to engage in scientific exchange and provide congress coverage
  • Support the development and budget oversight of medical activities for assigned Oncology portfolio assets.
  • Manage travel and expense budget in line with Ipsen guidelines
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and Ipsen policies.

HOW - Knowledge & Experience

Knowledge & Experience (essential):

  • 8+ years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry, including at least 5 years in Medical Affairs strategy
  • Significant experience in Oncology required; experience in hematology is an asset.
  • Knowledge of clinical trial design, biostatistics.
  • Demonstrated experience in presenting data and publishing scientific information.
  • Ability to work across multiple functions, cultures and embrace team diversity.
  • Enterprise and strategic mindset with ability to identify & create solutions to various scenarios.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, and coaching skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex medical information to diverse audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills & problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience with organizational skills & business planning.
  • Proven project management skills, including the ability to oversee multiple initiatives concurrently, track and measure outcomes, provide reporting, and ensure timely execution.
  • Strong organizational skills & ability to deal with competing priorities.
  • Strong reasoning & creative solving skills.
  • Strong knowledge of US PhRMA, OIG, FDA rules & regulations & guidelines relating to compliant medical engagements
  • Solid understanding of clinical trial design and biostatistical principles.
  • Proven ability to work in & embrace a fast-paced & dynamic work environment with a high level of autonomy.
  • Ability to travel up to 40% of the time i.e., Attend HCP/customer meetings; attend scientifical/medical conferences, attend Cambridge, MA meetings, etc.)

Knowledge & Experience (preferred):

  • Clinical trials/research experience is a plus.
  • Background in strategic roles and product launch management preferred.
  • Experience launching a new product and/or indication preferred.
  • Hematology experience is an asset.

Education / Certifications (essential):

  •  Advanced degree in a scientific discipline (MD, DO, PhD, or PharmD preferred)

Language(s) (essential):

  •  Fluent in English is required.

The annual base salary range for this position is $225,000-$300,000.

This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentives program as well as our long-term incentives program.

The pay range displayed above is the range of base pay compensation within which Ipsen expects to pay for this role at the time of this posting.
