Traffic Signal Maintenance Supervisor

The City of Fayetteville is currently recruiting for a Traffic Signal Maintenance Supervisor to oversee, coordinate, and participate in the activities and maintenance of traffic signals including traffic studies/investigations and traffic signal design; to coordinate traffic signal maintenance and activities with other divisions and departments and outside agencies; and, to provide highly complex staff assistance to the City Traffic Engineer. To supervise, assign, and review the work of staff responsible for providing traffic signal maintenance within the Traffic Service Division.

1. Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise and review the work of paraprofessional, technical, and maintenance staff responsible for providing signal maintenance for the Traffic Services Division; recommend and participate in the implementation of goals, objectives, and practices for providing effective and efficient services.
2. Participate in the selection and evaluation of lower level staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures
3. Coordinate, implement, and inspect the construction of traffic signals.
4. Investigate and respond to citizen and city council's requests for transportation improvements; investigate complaints regarding roadway problems; answer questions and provide information to the general public.
5. Participate in a variety of activities requiring travel including inspection and analysis of traffic control devices.
6. Manage the daily operations, maintenance and repair of the traffic signal maintenance section; establish work priorities; generate work orders; make work assignments; coordinate work efforts and projects with internal departments and external agencies; review and evaluate work for quality and compliance with established standards.
7. Establish and maintain equipment and materials inventory to meet operational needs; requisitions and purchases parts, materials and equipment to support traffic signal maintenance operations.
8. Assist in maintaining traffic signal system and other related traffic signal timing implementations.
9. Design new traffic signal layouts; review the designs of technical staff; perform and review traffic signal timing studies.
10. Coordinate traffic investigations, studies, traffic control, accidents, and street closures.
11. Coordinate and oversee traffic signal technician staff to isolate communications and electronic circuitry malfunctions.
12. Coordinate a variety of meetings with utility companies, NCDOT, contractors, internal departments, external agencies and/or other applicable parties for the installation, upgrade and maintenance of traffic signal system related facilities.
13. Participate in employee selection; provide or coordinate staff training; evaluate employee performance; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures.

Experience: 
Five years of increasingly responsible experience in traffic signal maintenance or related field.

Training: 
Equivalent to an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in electronic engineering, computer programming, or a related field.

LICENSING & CERTIFICATIONS:

Required:
International Municipal Sign Association (IMSA) Traffic Signal Level II certification; Class B Commercial Driver’s License.

Preferred:
IMSA Traffic Signal Level III certification; Class A Commercial Driver’s License with no restrictions.

From the time of closing, the selection process is anticipated to last approximately 4 - 6 weeks. The process will consist of a panel interview with the selected candidate being subject to a pre-employment DOT drug screen, DOT physical, physical abilities test, background check, and driving history check.
