Description

General Purpose and Scope of Position: The Assistant Vice President of Academic Strategy & Implementation plays a pivotal role in influencing campus and functional leaders in order to support the effective implementation and long-term sustainability of initiatives in the Office of the Provost. This position may also engage in research, planning, implementation, and evaluation for projects within the Office of the Provost.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee projects within the Provost Office. Includes developing & presenting executive reports, creating project teams, convening and conducting meetings, managing project timelines and budgets, and coordinating training and implementation of projects.

  • Manage a portfolio of strategic initiatives and operational priorities across Academic Affairs and related divisions.

  • Coordinate cross-functional teams and stakeholders to deliver initiatives on time and within scope.

  • Identify and address process gaps, redundancies, and workflow inefficiencies across academic operations and student support functions.

  • Develop detailed, robust implementation plans with built-in continuous improvement methods.

  • Identify colleagues who will collaborate on each project and clearly communicate expectations and accountability mechanisms.

  • Facilitate project meetings and discussions, including crafting meaningful agendas, documenting and synthesizing discussions, and establishing and assigning actionable next steps.

  • Track deadlines, deliverables, and outcomes of projects.

  • Provide implementation progress reports as needed.

  • Support the Provost and Academic Vice Presidents in their leadership responsibilities related to college-wide projects for which they serve as project sponsor or owner.

  • Serve as a liaison to other divisions and external entities to communicate divisional needs and requests, solicit opportunities for collaboration, and participate in cross-divisional work groups and committees.

  • Communicate and employ strategic outcome practices, innovation design, and change leadership strategies and processes effective for supporting the desired institutional culture and as identified in the college’s strategic plan.

  • Support institutional and regional accreditation efforts through project management, coordination, implementation tracking, stakeholder engagement, and operational support activities related to compliance, reporting, continuous improvement, and strategic initiatives.

  • Provide strategic project management and operational leadership support for institutional initiatives, recommendations, and implementation efforts originating through the Chief Academic Officers Council (CAOC).

All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.

Hiring Range: $105,000 - $115,000

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Master’s degree in business, organizational development, project management, or a related field.

  • At least 5 years of senior-level professional experience in strategy, operations, project management, or related work.

  • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated success in applying project implementation and support to large-scale projects and initiatives.

  • Excellent focus on attention to detail, excellent analytical skills, and sound communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated capacity to develop and implement practical strategies, plans, and solutions to identified issues and problems.

  • Exceptional research, writing, analytical, and organizational skills, and the ability to convey complex concepts in a clear, concise, and logical manner.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, assign and manage work activities, meet deadlines, and develop project management reporting in a timely and effective manner.

  • Proven track record of taking initiative in managing competing priorities and working effectively under pressure when facing extremely short deadlines.

  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team and independently; performs work effectively with minimal to no supervision.

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize under the pressure of deadlines while working independently. Knows how to escalate appropriately, efficiently, and effectively.

  • Must have high ethical standards and the ability to exercise sound judgment in dealing with politically sensitive situations and catering to differing interests. 

  • Experience in higher education preferred.
