Description

The IDP Student Assistant provides essential operational and leadership support for events hosted by the Integrated Design Program (IDP), helping ensure smooth execution from setup to breakdown. This role involves preparing event spaces, welcoming guests, assisting presenters and participants, and handling logistics during workshops, showcases, community gatherings, and some audiovisual and photo editing. The student helps create a positive, organized, and engaging environment for all attendees.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with setting up and breaking down event spaces, including furniture, signage, equipment, and materials.

  • Provide basic audiovisual support, light IT support, photo editing, and printing. 

  • Greet and direct attendees, providing information and support as needed.

  • Support facilitators, presenters, and performers with logistical and technical needs.

  • Manage event materials such as name tags, programs, or handouts.

  • Help monitor and maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the event.

  • Document events through photos or notes for later use in communications or reports.

  • Coordinate with staff to troubleshoot issues quickly and effectively.

  • Assist with post-event tasks such as organizing supplies, debriefing, and evaluating outcomes.

  • Ensure events are welcoming, inclusive, and reflective of the IDP mission.

  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of successful event execution.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled as a student at The New School

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills and the capacity  to think strategically and to effectively move ideas forward into implementation

  • Ability to communicate effectively on multiple levels across the organization

  • Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive)

  • Familiarity with design software (Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, etc.) preferred

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Interest in urbanism, design justice, community-based work, or sustainability

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively

  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks

WORK MODE

  • On-Campus Position - Employees in this position are expected to work on campus during regularly scheduled work hours because the work cannot be performed remotely without being infeasible or not in the best interest of the organization. #LI-DNI

  • Work hours are not fixed and may vary from week to week based on program needs. Student Assistants will support events taking place throughout the semester and should have some flexibility in their availability to accommodate scheduled program events.

Hourly Rate: $18 per hour
