Location

This position is required to work in person at various locations, but primarily at the Student Theatre Facility, 2131 Prospect Street, Burlington. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands.

Position Overview

The City of Burlington is accepting new and returning applications to assist with Fall/Winter/Spring Burlington Student Theatre programs for children aged 4-17 years. Reporting to the Artistic Supervisor, Program & Theatre Service, program staff work with the following participant groups:

• Once Upon a Time (Kindergarten)

• Little Performers (Grades 1-3)

• Junior (Grades 4-5)

• Intermediate (Grades 6-7)

• Senior (Grades 8-12)

Program Areas Include:

• Drama

• Dance & Choreography

• Music

• Theatre Production

Available positions include:

• Program Leader/Instructor, RCC – $23.31 - $29.14 (Grade C)

• Assistant Programs, RCC - $18.21 - $22.77 (Grade A)

Program staff typically work 1 to 3 shifts per week per program. Hours of work will vary with position title and will vary dependent on program need. These positions will work up to 10 months between September and June.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will have experience working with children and youth in a performing arts or arts education environment. Program staff support planning and facilitation of a variety of arts-based activities that encourage creativity, skill development, collaboration, and personal growth. Staff are responsible for ensuring a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment while providing active supervision of participants during both onsite and offsite activities. All staff are expected to model positive behaviour and comply with all health and safety requirements.

Responsibilities include:

• Preparing, delivering, monitoring, and supporting staff on the delivery of the program in their program area in collaboration with Specialized Program Instructors and Artistic Supervisor, Theatre & Program Services.

• Providing instruction to participants.

• Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all participants.

• Ensure all activities align with City policies, safety standards, and program expectations.

• Escalate behavioural, safety, or wellbeing concerns as appropriate.

• Successful applicants will assist in ensuring the safety and supervision of participants both on and offsite and are expected to implement and participate in activities. All staff must always adhere to all health and safety regulations.

• Duties and responsibilities are inclusive but not limited to the above.

Requirements

• A minimum of 2 years of experience working in a Theatre, Performing Arts or Arts Education environment.

• Experience working with children ages 4-17 in an educational or recreational setting is preferred.

• Professional experience in your identified Program Area is an asset.

• Confidence, patience, time management, strong communication and organizational skills.

• Certification in Standard First Aid and CPR-C (or be willing to obtain).

• Training in HIGH FIVE - Principles of Healthy Child Development is preferred.

• Some physical exertion is required, which may include setting up the program space and moving program equipment.

• Program staff will be required to complete all mandatory training prior to the start of program. Training is a combination of online and in-person training events.
