The Paralegal I will provide legal support and perform a variety of duties for the legal department under the supervision of the SVP, Division General Counsel – Products and Risk or other designee of the General Counsel.
All Healogics employees must perform their job responsibilities according to all Healogics policies, Hospital policies, as well as to accrediting organizations, federal and state regulation, and to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) guidelines, as applicable.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Provide support to the Legal Department primarily in the areas of litigation, claims, and risk management
- Assist in reporting matters to insurance broker and/or third-party administrator for insurance lines based on attorney’s reporting determination
- Maintain case / claim files and correspondence records
- Partners with attorneys, business stakeholders, and operational experts to resolve issues and coordinate the gathering of information, materials and evidence necessary to respond to discovery;
- Coordinate scheduling for witness interviews with employees and internal / external counsel for cases / claims
- Administer the handling of service of process received via registered agent, legal notices, and other legal correspondence
- Coordinate the gathering of responsive documents and/or materials which are necessary to respond subpoenas or other mandatory record requests
- Handles administrative functions including document management, calendar coordination, board meeting and executive presentations material, and expense processing for the Legal Department
- Assist in the preparation and drafting of materials for meetings
- Participate in and/or coordinate events as needed
- Maintain safeguards of confidential company information
- Performs other duties as required
Required Education, Experience and Credentials:
- Bachelor’s degree (with paralegal or legal coursework) and related experience within a law firm, corporate legal department
- At least three (3) years’ experience working at a law firm or corporate legal department
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive legal and business information
- Must be extremely detail oriented, thrive under pressure, and produce high-quality deliverables
- High energy level, self-starter, willing to take initiative
- Exceptional interpersonal skills; ability to communicate with diverse personalities in a tactful, professional manner
- Strong knowledge of corporate governance, contract management, and legal research techniques
- Must possess advanced level skills with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Experience with contract management software
