Description
Johnson Controls is seeking a Senior Controls & Automation Engineer to support the development, testing, commissioning and troubleshooting of PLC/HMI control systems for Hydraulic Power Units (HPU) and CAFS / INERT Fire Suppression Systems.
This is a hands-on role focused on PLC software development, HMI configuration, FAT/iFAT/SAT execution, commissioning and operational support across supplier facilities, JCI sites and project locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, modify and troubleshoot PLC software using Siemens TIA Portal & Rockwell Studio 5000 and FactoryTalk experience.
- Configure and support HMI/SCADA applications such as WinCC, WinCC Unified, FactoryTalk or similar platforms.
- Execute and support Pre-FAT, FAT, iFAT, SAT and commissioning activities.
- Implement and verify Cause & Effect Matrices, interlocks, alarms, shutdowns and control sequences.
- Troubleshoot PLC, HMI, I/O, instrumentation and communication issues.
- Support controlled software updates, testing and issue resolution.
- Work closely with engineering teams, suppliers and client representatives to achieve project milestones.
Essential Requirements
- Degree in Electrical, Automation, Control or Instrumentation Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years' hands-on PLC programming experience.
- Strong experience with Siemens TIA Portal and Studio 5000 (mandatory).
- HMI development experience with WinCC, WinCC Unified, FactoryTalk or equivalent.
- Proven experience delivering FAT, iFAT, SAT and commissioning activities.
- Knowledge of industrial communications including Profinet, Modbus TCP/IP and Ethernet/IP.
- Experience implementing control philosophies, Cause & Effect requirements, interlocks and permissives.
Desirable Experience
- Oil & Gas, Marine or Offshore projects.
- Fire Suppression Systems, HPU packages or safety-related control systems.
- Functional Safety awareness (IEC 61508 / IEC 61511).
- OT Cyber Security awareness (IEC 62443).
- Rockwell Studio 5000 and FactoryTalk experience.
What We're Looking For
A practical, hands-on Controls Engineer who can quickly understand control systems, solve automation problems, support project delivery, and work effectively with suppliers, clients and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Travel within the UK, Turkey and Vietnam will be required for FAT, commissioning and project support activities.
