The Sr Engineer, Systems Software Automation is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable test automation frameworks and infrastructure for complex, distributed systems — including microservice-based software platforms, on-prem and cloud deployments, and the in-house and third-party devices they integrate with. This role is a key technical contributor within the Systems Test Engineering organization, developing automation solutions that improve test efficiency, reliability, repeatability, and coverage.

The position reports to the Sr Manager, Systems Software Test and is part of the Software Test Engineering department located in Irvine, CA and will be an on-site role.

In This Role, You Will Have The Opportunity To:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable automated test frameworks and support infrastructure for instrument and system-level testing.
• Develop reusable test libraries, device interfaces, protocol libraries, utilities, and common automation components across instrument platforms and downstream system integrations.
• Collaborate with development teams during product design to improve system testability, observability, interfaces, communication protocols, and diagnostic capabilities.
• Mentor engineers contributing to the automation codebase and establish best practices for software architecture, code quality, maintainability, and reuse.
• Participate in technical design and code reviews and provide technical leadership for test automation initiatives.

The Essential Requirements Of The Job Include:

• B.S. Degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in software development, test automation, software verification, or a related engineering discipline.
• Strong software development experience with Python, including object-oriented programming, debugging, and development of reusable software components. 

• Experience designing and maintaining automated test frameworks or substantial automation infrastructure. 
• Experience testing microservice-based software systems with a distributed network topology, in on-prem, cloud (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), or hybrid deployments.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD systems, and modern software development practices.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

• Experience with medical devices, embedded systems, or other regulated products. 

• Experience interfacing with physical devices, laboratory equipment, or test instrumentation. 
• Familiarity with healthcare interoperability or messaging standards (e.g., HL7, WCTP) or other structured data/protocol formats.
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and container/orchestration tooling (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).

The annual salary range OR the hourly range for this role is $100,000 - $130,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future. 

This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
