Job Description


Peterson Cat Power Systems has the immediate need for an experienced Data Center Service Manager based at our Hillsboro, OR location. This position requires Travel up to 50% of the time throughout the United States.

The Data Center Service Manager provides leadership and operational oversight for nationwide data center service operations. This role drives service performance, profitability, safety performance, customer satisfaction, and workforce development while ensuring consistent execution of service strategies that support critical power and data center customers.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Provide direction and leadership to Data Center Service Supervisors, On-Site Service Supervisors, Field Technicians, and Service Administrators locally and throughout the United States to ensure customer needs are met.
  • Collaborate and partner with the Mission Critical Sales Team to achieve mutual goals for the customer base.
  • Develop and maintain close relationships with other Caterpillar dealers to ensure support of data center projects.
  • Liaise and develop relationships with Caterpillar Global Account Management Team.
  • Operate as profit center and within scope of company mission statement; develop and monitor budget; act to control costs and reduce expenses; contribute and encourage the submission of cost improvement ideas.
  • Maintain good customer relations; intercede to help resolve problems and enhance relations; assist with warranty claims as needed.
  • Oversee work order closing process; periodically review work orders for accuracy and completeness, and the appropriateness of parts and labor.
  • Supplement other marketing efforts; stimulate and promote use of company service capabilities; provide quotes where possible.
  • Conduct safety meetings, accident investigations, and train department personnel on safe work procedures.
  • Maintain and ensure safe and healthful working conditions as set forth in safety programs; ensure compliance with environmental regulations as set forth in company hazardous materials and environmental protection programs.
  • Maintain liaison with parts management and communicate frequently with other area managers.
  • Oversee accomplishment of service administration functions and maintenance of files and records; maintain control over on-line systems; maintain enough stock of office and promotional supplies to allow for efficient and effective business.
  • Oversee and approve timecards daily; ensure time is reviewed and approved at the end of each pay period.
  • Communicate with customers concerning service activities including reviewing jobs, explaining invoices, identifying needs for future repairs, and making maintenance recommendations.
  • Verify customer credit and payment requirements prior to initiating work orders.
  • Coordinate parts ordering and delivery as needed.
  • Monitor department work in progress to ensure jobs are completed on time and to the highest quality standards.
  • Keep current on technical aspects of function including service, repair, and modification procedures for all brands and models of products serviced by the department
  • Keep current on relevant company and Caterpillar policies and procedures.
  • Provide technical support and assistance for department activities including failure analysis.
  • Provide on-the-job technical training to department technicians as needed and schedule formal training activities for department technicians.
  • Oversee the inventory and maintenance of department tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Monitor department equipment and vehicle conditions and ensure they remain in good working order.
  • Travel up to 50% of the time throughout the United States to visit job sites and attend meetings, conferences, and seminars; Operate company or personal vehicle as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manager is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of Service Supervisors, Technicians, and service administration employees within the Data Center Service Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and implementing corrective action with employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. When work deficiencies are identified takes prompt and effective measures to correct areas needing improvement.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associates Degree from a fully accredited college or vocational/technical school in a Diesel Technology; and a minimum of seven (7) years of directly related experience in equipment service, preferably in the electrical power generation industry; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. 

  • Supervisory experience required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
