The Mechanical Designer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining custom truck-mounted propane equipment and related systems for the Fisk product line. This position creates detailed 3D models, manufacturing drawings, and product documentation using SolidWorks while collaborating with manufacturing, sales, purchasing, and production teams to ensure customer requirements, quality standards, and manufacturing capabilities are met.


The Mechanical Designer may also provide design support for other product lines and engineering projects as needed

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design custom propane delivery and service truck systems to meet customer specifications and operational requirements.
  • Create and maintain detailed 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Manage design documentation, revisions, and workflows through SolidWorks PDM.
  • Develop fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, BOMs, and supporting manufacturing documentation.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Production, Purchasing, and Quality departments to ensure projects are designed for manufacturability and cost efficiency.
  • Review customer specifications, vehicle requirements, and applicable industry standards to develop practical design solutions.
  • Support production teams by troubleshooting design-related issues and implementing design improvements.
  • Verify design accuracy through the use of measuring equipment, inspection processes, and prototype evaluations.
  • Maintain and update routers, work instructions, process sheets, and associated documentation.
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives, standardization efforts, and cost reduction projects.
  • Support other Mechanical Designers and design projects across the organization as workload and business needs require.

Required Qualifications

  • Proficiency with SolidWorks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Basic math, computer, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • General manufacturing experience and knowledge of metals, plastics, and fabricated assemblies.
  • Ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings, specifications, and assembly documents.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Intermediate proficiency using tape measures, calipers, and other manual measuring instruments.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of routers, travelers, work instructions, and other manufacturing documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of assembly configuration within SolidWorks
  • Experience designing truck bodies, vehicle-mounted equipment, or mobile industrial systems.
  • Experience with propane delivery equipment, fuel systems, fluid handling systems, or related industries.
  • Experience using Global Shop Solutions ERP.
  • Associate degree or technical certification in Mechanical Design, Drafting, CAD Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or related field.
  • Understanding of GD&T and manufacturing best practices.
  • Sheet metal, welding, machining, and fabrication experience.
