Description
Description
The Product Line Applications Engineer is the technical owner of "how the product is used" for the high-power product line — bidirectional (regenerative) DC sources and loads for battery, e-mobility and data center power test. The role turns product capability into proven, demonstrable customer applications: through custom project engineering, live demonstrations, application content, and a dedicated high-power applications lab that this role is expected to specify, build up and operate.
The position is part of the Product Line organization and serves as the technical bridge between Product Management, R&D, Sales, and the field organization. It is neither a sales role nor a development role, but a customer-facing technical leadership position that ensures effective collaboration across all functions and translates application insights into successful products and solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Support customers and internal teams with technical product questions, system sizing, configuration recommendations, and application-related inquiries.
- Assist in translating customer requirements into practical technical solutions and system concepts for a variety of power electronics applications.
- Contribute to customer-specific projects by helping define requirements, preparing technical documentation, and supporting solution development.
- Collaborate with Product Management, Engineering, Sales, and Service teams to address technical challenges and support successful project execution.
- Design, build, maintain, and deliver product demonstrations, proof-of-concept setups, and application-focused presentations for customers and industry events.
- Support the operation and continuous improvement of the applications laboratory, including test setups, equipment maintenance, safety procedures, and verification testing.
- Create and maintain application notes, technical documentation, training materials, and reference examples to support customers, sales teams, and partners.
- Assist with test automation, software integration, and industrial communication interfaces while supporting customer test systems and application environments.
Qualifications
- Degree in electrical engineering, power electronics, mechatronics or comparable.
- Several years in applications engineering, test engineering, commissioning or system integration — with genuine hands-on experience on high-power and high-voltage equipment (hundreds of volts and tens of kilowatts and above).
- Sound understanding of power electronics: converter topologies, regenerative/bidirectional operation, control loops and dynamic behavior, protection concepts, grid interaction and power quality.
- Practical knowledge of at least one target application field (battery test, e-mobility, energy storage, or data center / high-power DC distribution).
- Qualification and mindset for safe work on electrical installations (Elektrofachkraft or equivalent); willingness to take on responsible-person duties for the lab.
- Programming/scripting ability for test automation (Python or equivalent) and comfort with instrument remote-control interfaces.
- Ability to work customer-facing and to present technically to both engineers and decision makers.
- German and English, both business fluent.
What we offer
- Join us in driving the “Electrification of Everything”
- Significant scope to shape quality strategies and optimize processes
- Continuous professional development and targeted support, especially in lean and Kaizen methodologies
- A modern, well-equipped workplace in a dynamic and innovative environment
