Make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families experiencing a mental health crisis. Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital is seeking a dedicated Pediatric Behavioral Health Crisis Clinician to help expand access to timely, compassionate behavioral health services for children and adolescents in our community. 

As a member of the Behavioral Health Intake Team, you will work alongside a dedicated team of pediatric behavioral health providers who value your expertise, perspective, and ideas. In this role, you will complete comprehensive assessments, identify behavioral health and crisis needs, provide crisis intervention, and collaborate with physicians, caregivers, and other members of the care team to coordinate appropriate services and support. Your work will help connect children and families with the care they need during some of their most challenging moments.

A caregiver in this position works 1:00pm—11:30pm (Four 10-hour shifts). Rotating weekends, from 10:00am—8:30pm.  

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

• Complete comprehensive mental status, psychosocial, risk, and chemical use assessments. Identifies patient crisis needs.  

• Participate in on-going assessment and care plan recommendations for patients with extended time awaiting dispositions. 

• Provide crisis intervention services using a therapeutic intervention, based on patient-centered outcomes and standards of care, based on current research and evidence-based practice. 

• Participate in the clinical instruction and supervision of Psychiatric Crisis Intervention Specialists who are seeking independent licensure and student interns shadowing or participating as an intern with the department to provide learning experiences for such students. 

• Act with integrity in placing Professional charge capture for crisis intervention services provided and documenting all requirements for such services provided. 

• Supply information to the medical team for consideration of a differential diagnosis. 

• Pursue ongoing education in behavioral health. 

• Recognize significant changes in patient condition and respond appropriately. 

• Navigates insurance verification and pre-certification processes for behavioral health care-outs. 

• Provide psychoeducation to family and significant others of patients, as well as other co-working caregivers about behavioral health, de-escalation, and/or other related topics to assist in the patient’s current plan of care. 

• Involve the patient/family (or designee) and other current providers in developing a plan of care individualized to patient cultural, religious, and educational needs. 

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team in the formulation of an individualized plan of care.  

• Process referred cases to appropriate disposition; which may include inpatient placement or assistance with community wrap around services for a successful discharge plan. 

• Assist in orientation of new Behavioral Health Intake team staff or other hospital personnel. 

• Communicates information regarding patient plan of care, current outcomes, and acuity at end of shift report. 

• Perform routine administrative office functions, as needed to facilitate casework processes. 

• Assist in orientation of new Behavioral Health Intake team staff or other hospital personnel. 

• Incorporate the use of informatics tools, principles, theories, and practices in the safe and effective delivery of care. 

• Work effectively to create and maintain a positive work environment. 

• Incorporate patient safety goals in daily practice. 

• Complete all documentation and records related to patient care. 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

• MA, MS, in a healthcare profession, or an MEd 
• Licensed Social Worker [LSW] or 

• Licensed Professional Counselor [LPC]  or 

• Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor III [LCDC-III] or 

• Registered Nurse [RN]
• Two years of work experience post Master’s Degree 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

• Licensed Independent Social Worker [LISW], Licensed Independent Social Worker with Supervisory Designation [LISW-S], Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor [LPCC], Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with Supervisory Designation [LPCC-S] 

Physical Requirements:

• Requires Corrected hearing and vision to normal range
• Some positions may be more sedentary work
• Some positions may be more light work
• Require full range of motion, eye-hand coordination
• Require standing or walking for extensive periods of time
• Require some exposure to communicable disease or bodily fluids

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
