Description

The Summit Area YMCA is seeking an experienced Facilities Director to provide strategic leadership and oversight of our buildings, aquatic facilities, and physical infrastructure across the Association. Reporting directly to the CEO and President, this senior leadership position is responsible for protecting and enhancing the organization’s physical assets while ensuring our facilities are safe, compliant, efficient, and positioned to support our mission for years to come.

The Facilities Director oversees four buildings and three aquatic facilities, working with maintenance and housekeeping teams and external vendors to ensure effective facility operations. This role extends beyond day-to-day maintenance to include long-range facility planning, capital project leadership, asset lifecycle management, budget oversight, sustainability initiatives, and collaboration with executive leadership and the Facilities Committee.

We are looking for a facilities professional who can assess organizational needs, establish priorities, lead teams and projects, and translate complex facility issues into clear recommendations and actionable plans.

You May Be the Right Fit If…

  • You have experience leading facilities operations across multiple buildings or locations.
  • You can balance immediate operational needs with long-term facility planning and capital priorities.
  • You have successfully managed renovation projects, capital improvements, contractors, and vendor relationships.
  • You understand building systems and maintenance operations but are most effective leading strategy, establishing priorities, and ensuring accountability.
  • You are comfortable developing budgets, evaluating facility needs, and presenting recommendations to executive leadership or board committees.
  • You can lead and develop facilities and housekeeping teams while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • You are interested in sustainability, energy efficiency, and responsible stewardship of organizational resources.
  • You value working for a mission-driven organization that makes a meaningful impact in the community.

What You’ll Do:

Facilities Strategy and Operational Oversight

  • Provide leadership and oversight of facilities operations across four buildings and three aquatic facilities.
  • Establish and oversee preventive maintenance programs for building systems, mechanical equipment, and aquatic facilities.
  • Ensure facilities are safe, well-maintained, code-compliant, and aligned with operational and organizational needs.
  • Monitor facility conditions, assess emerging risks, and establish priorities for maintenance, repairs, and improvements.
  • Oversee systems and processes for work orders, equipment records, inspections, supplies, and facility-related documentation.
  • Coordinate facility-related emergency response and oversee operational planning for weather events and other urgent situations.

 Capital Planning and Asset Management

  • Partner with executive leadership to develop long-term facility strategies, capital improvement plans, and investment priorities.
  • Develop and manage the annual facilities operating budget and multi-year capital forecast.
  • Oversee asset lifecycle planning, deferred maintenance tracking, and the replacement or modernization of major building systems.
  • Identify and evaluate capital projects, preparing recommendations, cost estimates, and supporting business cases.
  • Lead renovation, construction, and capital improvement projects from planning and vendor selection through completion.
  • Monitor project budgets, timelines, quality, and outcomes while providing regular updates to leadership.

 Team Leadership and Development

  • Oversee and collaborate with the maintenance team and provide leadership to housekeeping staff.
  • Support recruiting, training, coaching, performance management, and professional development for facilities personnel.
  • Establish clear expectations and accountability for safety, service quality, responsiveness, and preventive maintenance.
  • Foster effective coordination among facilities staff, branch leadership, program teams, and external service providers.

Vendor & Contract Management

  • Develop and maintain relationships with qualified contractors, engineers, architects, and other facility service providers.
  • Lead bid and RFP processes, evaluate proposals, negotiate contracts, and monitor vendor performance.
  • Ensure contracted work meets organizational standards, regulatory requirements, project timelines, and budget expectations.
  • Coordinate maintenance and project activities to minimize disruption to members, staff, and programs.

Executive, Board, and Community Collaboration

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and senior leadership on facility conditions, capital investments, operational risks, and emerging needs.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and project updates for leadership and the Facilities Committee.
  • Maintain accurate information regarding facility assets, deferred maintenance, capital projects, and organizational priorities.
  • Collaborate with municipal officials, community stakeholders, and external partners on facility-related matters.

Sustainability and Operational Efficiency

  • Lead initiatives focused on energy efficiency, water conservation, sustainable operations, and responsible resource management.
  • Identify opportunities for building system upgrades, operating efficiencies, and long-term cost savings.
  • Evaluate available incentives, grants, and emerging practices that may support facility improvements.
  • Establish and track sustainability goals and communicate progress to organizational leadership.

Salary & Benefits

This full-time, exempt-level position generally works Monday–Friday during standard business hours, with occasional evening or weekend responsibilities based on operational needs, projects, or emergencies. The Salary range for this position is $110,000 – $130,000 annually, based on experience.
