HOURS:Average of 10 hours/week with some remote work, regular meetings and occasional in-person activities as needed

JOB SUMMARY:

The University of St. Thomas is seeking two interns to support the Office of Research. This position is part of the University’s NSF GRANTED-funded Research Administration Internship Program, which is designed to introduce students to the field of research administration and help develop the next generation of professionals who support research, scholarship, institutional partnerships, compliance, and sponsored projects in higher education.

Position Overview The Research Administration Intern will work with staff on projects that support proposal development, post-award management and compliance. The intern will play a key role in organizing institutional knowledge, enhancing communication with faculty, and developing resources that streamline the research process for Principal Investigators (PIs).

In addition to office-specific tasks, the intern will participate in approximately 1–2 hours per week of programmatic activities through the Research Administration Internship Program, including weekly cohort meetings, training modules, and discussions with research administration professionals.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Information Architecture: Setting up and organizing a SharePoint site for Sponsored Programs, including creating structured folders for PIs and migrating/organizing past award documents.
  • Communications: Assisting with the development and distribution of a regular newsletter to PIs to highlight upcoming trainings, new requirements, and office updates.
  • Compliance Support: Managing compliance-related communications and maintaining/updating internal tracking spreadsheets to ensure institutional and federal requirements are met.
  • Resource Development: Researching research administration materials from peer institutions to adapt into internal checklists, quick guides, and "how-to" resources for various phases of the research process.
  • Proposal Support: Assisting with the organization of proposal materials, templates, boilerplate language, and supporting documents.
  • Professional Development: Completing training materials related to research administration, ethics, and higher education research support.
  • Programmatic Participation: Participating in a weekly intern cohort meeting and preparing an end-of-semester project or presentation related to the internship experience.

Program Context

This position is part of a grant-funded internship program focused on research administration workforce development.
