Purpose and Impact
The Brewer is responsible for producing high-quality wort and bright beer that meet established quality standards while supporting safe and efficient brewing operations. This role plays an important part in maintaining product quality, operating brewing equipment, and ensuring sanitation and cleaning procedures are completed in accordance with brewery standards.
Responsibilities
Brewing Operations
- Produce wort within specifications in the brewhouse and transfer product to fermenters.
- Perform yeast handling activities and support fermentation processes.
- Operate brewing equipment, including centrifuges, filters, and associated systems.
Quality & Production Support
- Supply the packaging department with high-quality bright beer that meets production standards.
- Perform data entry, spreadsheet calculations, and analytical tasks to support production activities.
- Monitor production results and maintain accurate operational records.
Cleaning & Sanitation
- Clean-in-place (CIP) brewing equipment, tanks, centrifuges, filters, and associated systems.
- Maintain CIP checklists and ensure sanitation procedures are completed accurately.
- Remove recycling and waste materials as required to maintain housekeeping standards.
Material Handling & General Support
- Handle brewing materials, including malt, hops, and other raw materials.
- Perform cleaning and other production-related duties as assigned.
- Support safe, efficient, and organized brewery operations at all times.
Skills and Qualifications (Required)
- Bachelor of Science degree or Brewing College Diploma
- Hands-on brewing experience considered an asset
- Mechanical aptitude with strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of CIP systems, brewery cleaning chemicals, and WHMIS requirements
- Strong mathematical and computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Positive attitude with the ability to multitask and work reliably in a team environment
- Physically capable of standing for extended periods and performing occasional medium to heavy lifting (up to 30 kg)
- Ability to work safely and efficiently in a production environment
- Ability to perform duties to a high standard with minimal supervision
- Ability to operate a forklift; in-house training and certification provided
- Successful completion of a brewing knowledge assessment
Work Environment (Hybrid/Onsite)
This is an onsite position located in a brewery production environment. The role requires regular operation of production equipment, exposure to brewing and cleaning processes, extended periods of standing, material handling, and occasional heavy lifting.
