Senior Automation Engineer

Job Description:

Role Summary

The Senior Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining scalable infrastructure automation across compute and cloud domains. This role leads DevOps-driven practices, IaC tooling (Ansible, Terraform), and provides governance-compliant automation modules to support OS provisioning, patching, monitoring, and recovery processes.

Key Responsibilities

·       Design and implement reusable automation frameworks (IaC, Ansible).

·       Develop enterprise-grade playbooks for OS, patching, storage, and backup automation.

·       Integrate automation into CI/CD toolchains and approval workflows.

·       Ensure governance compliance and documentation of all automation code and pipelines.

·       Mentor junior engineers and support teams on best practices.

·       Collaborate with monitoring and ITSM teams to auto-remediate common alerts.

Required Skills

·       Expert in Ansible, Terraform, scripting languages (PowerShell, Python).

·       Familiarity with Azure DevOps, Git, ServiceNow integration.

·       Knowledge of OS provisioning, backup, and performance automation.

·       Strong documentation and governance orientation.

Qualifications and Certifications

·       Bachelors in engineering or computer science.

·       7+ years in IT automation roles with leadership in IaC delivery.

·       Certifications: HashiCorp Terraform Associate, Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform, ITIL v4.

DXC Platform Proficiency (Required)

·       DXC ROMS (Reusable Orchestration Modules) — primary automation orchestration platform: agentless architecture, RHEL base OS, PostgreSQL database, Jenkins pipelines, Ansible playbooks versioned in Git

·       Execution modes: scheduled, human-triggered, ticket-triggered (PARES), mail-triggered (MaMI), API-based

·       HA deployment: RHEL Pacemaker clustering, PostgreSQL synchronous replication

·       DXC Arise — Level 1.5 Agentic AI integration for autonomous incident triage and automated ticket enrichment

·       DXC OASIS — Single pane of glass management plane for cross-platform analytics

Observability-Driven Automation (Required)

·       Dynatrace closed-loop automation: Davis AI detection → webhook → ROMS → Ansible playbook execution → Dynatrace Metrics API validation

·       SolarWinds-triggered network automation: NPM/NTA events → ServiceNow workflows → Ansible playbooks for:

·       WAN degradation diagnostics

·       Port flap triage (approval-gated port bounce)

·       AP recovery and client rebalancing

·       Configuration drift detection and baseline restore (NCM)

·       BGP neighbor failure diagnostics

·       Pre-meeting wireless readiness validation

·       Bridge AIOps — event correlation feeding automation triggers

Automation Factory Operating Model

·       This role operates within the DXC Automation Factory — a 10-person squad using Agile/Scrum delivery (sprint planning, backlog prioritization, controlled releases).

·       Squad composition: Automation Factory Lead, Platform Architect (ServiceNow/Dynatrace), Platform Engineers (3), Automation Engineers (2), DEX Automation Engineers (2), Scrum Master (1).

·       Automation is opt-in per use case — no production behavior change without Maaden’s explicit authorization.

ServiceNow Integration (Detailed)

·       All automation workflows must integrate with Maaden’s ServiceNow instance:

·       Incident auto-creation with diagnostic data

·       Change requests with pre-checks, back-out plans, post-validation

·       Approval gates via ServiceNow task toggles and standard change templates

·       Full evidence trail: what, where, when, outcome, attachments

·       CMDB accuracy ≥97% as a prerequisite for automation targeting

Governance & Compliance

·       NCA (National Cybersecurity Authority) and NDMO regulatory compliance

·       All write actions are approval-gated via ServiceNow

·       Pre-checks, back-out plans, and post-validation mandatory for every automated action

·       Year 1 target: 40% incident auto-remediation; Year 3 target: 100% eligible categories

Additional Technical Skills (Required)

·       Jenkins — pipeline orchestration and CI/CD for automation releases

·       Git — version control with tagging and semantic versioning

·       Python — scripting for custom automation and API integration

·       PowerShell — Windows automation (WinRM-based execution via ROMS)

Language

·       Bilingual Arabic and English proficiency required.
