Description
Part-Time / Consulting Contract | Remote
About the Role
We’re looking for an experienced Mobile Live Game Product & Economy Consultant to work on a competitive free-to-play mobile game currently in soft launch on iOS and Android, with paid user acquisition running.
The role sits at the intersection of game economy, monetization, retention, and player experience. We need someone who can look at the mobile game as a connected system rather than optimizing each area in isolation.
The main areas of focus are FTUE, economy balance, monetization, and retention.
What You’ll Focus On
FTUE & Early Player Experience
Help us understand how quickly new players reach the fun and where we lose them.
You’ll assess:
- Tutorial completion and drop-off
- Time to meaningful gameplay
- Early-game difficulty
- How quickly players understand the core mechanics
- How much complexity players can absorb early
- What should be introduced immediately versus later
Economy & Progression
Evaluate the currencies, progression systems, sinks, faucets, and overall power curve.
You’ll look at:
- Progression pace
- Currency generation and spending
- Resource scarcity and progression gates
- Sources of player demand
- What players value enough to spend on
- Power progression versus competitive fairness
- Pay-to-win risk
- Long-term progression goals
Monetization
Help shape a monetization structure that supports the mobile game rather than undermining it.
Areas include:
- First-purchase strategy
- Offer design and sequencing
- Price points and regional pricing
- Payer segmentation
- Conversion from non-payer to payer
- Battle pass viability
- Rewarded ads
- Monetization placement
- Building a spending ladder beyond the first purchase
Retention & Live Game Depth
Assess whether the mobile game gives players enough reason to keep coming back.
You’ll evaluate:
- Core loop depth
- Match quality and perceived fairness
- Short-, medium-, and long-term goals
- Progression and collection motivation
- Daily and weekly engagement loops
- Events and content cadence
- LiveOps opportunities
- Churn and return behavior
What Makes the Role Challenging
These systems pull against each other.
More monetization pressure can damage competitive fairness. Poor fairness damages retention. Progression changes can affect matchmaking, engagement, and spending at the same time.
We’re looking for someone who has made these trade-offs on a live F2P mobile game, used real player data to make decisions, shipped changes, and measured what happened afterward.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong experience working on live free-to-play mobile games
- Deep practical knowledge of game economy and progression
- Strong understanding of monetization and retention
- Experience making economy, balance, progression, or monetization decisions on a live mobile title
- Ability to analyze raw player and product data directly
- Strong understanding of cohorts, funnels, retention, conversion, and player behavior
- Good judgment about when the data supports a conclusion and when it does not
- Experience turning analysis into clear product recommendations
- Strong understanding of competitive integrity and pay-to-win risk
- Ability to work effectively across product, game design, economy, analytics, and LiveOps
- Strong written and spoken English
Nice to Have
- MOBA experience
- Competitive PvP experience
- Mobile soft-launch experience
- Experience with paid-UA-driven mobile games
- Experience with battle passes, offers, LiveOps, or rewarded advertising
