Job Summary:**

The Lead SMT Operator is responsible for overseeing and performing the operation, setup, and maintenance of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) equipment to ensure efficient and high-quality production of electronic assemblies. This role involves guiding and training junior operators, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining a safe and organized work environment.

Job Responsibilities:**

* Lead and supervise a team of SMT Operators, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback.
* Perform complex setups, changeovers, and programming adjustments on SMT placement machines, solder paste printers, and reflow ovens.
* Operate and monitor SMT equipment, including pick-and-place machines, screen printers, and reflow ovens, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to production schedules.
* Conduct first-article inspections and in-process quality checks to identify and correct defects, ensuring product quality and compliance with specifications.
* Troubleshoot and resolve SMT equipment malfunctions, performing minor repairs and preventative maintenance.
* Read and interpret engineering drawings, assembly instructions, and bill of materials (BOMs).
* Maintain accurate production records, including process parameters, quality data, and equipment logs.
* Collaborate with engineering and quality control teams to optimize SMT processes and resolve production issues.
* Ensure adherence to all safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area.
* Assist in the training and development of new SMT operators.
* Implement and support continuous improvement initiatives for SMT operations.

Job Qualifications:**

* High school diploma or equivalent; associate's degree in electronics or a related field preferred.
* Minimum of 5 years of experience operating and maintaining SMT equipment in a manufacturing environment.
* Proven leadership or supervisory experience in a production setting.
* Strong understanding of SMT processes, components, and industry best practices.
* Proficiency in setting up, programming, and operating various SMT machines (e.g., Fuji, Mycronic, Juki, Panasonic).
* Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, including schematics and assembly drawings.
* Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills related to SMT equipment and processes.
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and mentor others.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
* Knowledge of IPC-A-610 standards is highly desirable.
* Basic computer skills for data entry and machine interface.
* Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds as needed.
