Each day is different, you will be exposed to a wide variety of Therapeutic Indications and study types (ascending dose, first-in-human, food effect, drug to drug interactions, etc.)

This is a full-time, office/clinic-based job in Daytona Beach, FL.

If you join us, you will work with some of the world´s leading pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device companies in a vital stage of clinical development: establishing the safety, tolerability and pharmacokinetics of a new drug.

Many are drawn to this profession because of its direct impact on patient care. If this is your case, you will not miss that working in Phase 1 trials. Whilst allowing you to have a close face-to-face relationship with participants, and as you continue to practice your clinical skills and knowledge, you´ll be involved with the latest medical technologies and treatments, witnessing their development firsthand. When the drug you worked with gets approved, you know you´ll touch many patient´s lives around the world.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Under the direction and medical oversight of the Physician/Investigator, the Paramedic serves as a primary safety contact for study participants within a Fortrea Clinical Research Unit (CRU). This role monitors participant safety and well-being, provides basic and advanced medical care within defined scope of practice, and supports protocol-required clinical activities. Success in this role requires sound clinical judgment, timely escalation of participant safety concerns, accurate documentation, and effective collaboration with investigators, nurses, and other clinical team members.

Other key responsibilities:

  • Collaborate clearly and effectively with physicians, nurses, investigators, and other clinical team members to support coordinated participant care.

  • Deliver basic and advanced medical care, within defined scope of practice, to study participants in emergent and non-emergent situations.

  • Lead resuscitation and stabilization efforts for participants experiencing life-threatening situations, following accepted medical protocols and study-specific treatment requirements.

  • Monitor, document, and review active adverse events; communicate significant findings to the investigator and support ongoing safety assessments.

  • Escalate participant safety concerns to the investigator for review and determination regarding study procedures and/or dosing.

  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by the investigator or physician and in accordance with study protocols, Standing Orders, and site procedures.

  • Perform technical procedures as delegated, including blood collection, vital sign measurement, ECGs, and other protocol-required clinical activities.

  • Assess participants with out-of-range values for associated signs or symptoms, initiate appropriate interventions within scope of practice, and promptly notify the investigator when clinically indicated.

  • Conduct study-related activities in accordance with study protocols, investigator instructions, Standing Orders, applicable regulations, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Fortrea policies, and standard operating procedures.

  • Accurately and contemporaneously document study procedures, participant observations, adverse events, interventions, and other required data in source documents and applicable systems.

  • Perform all other duties as needed or assigned.

YOU NEED TO BRING…

  • High school diploma, secondary school diploma, or equivalent required.

  • Relevant formal academic or vocational qualification required.

  • State license or certification as a Paramedic required.

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate professionally and credibly with staff, management, physicians, investigators, and study participants.

  • Ability to manage multiple complex tasks and respond effectively to emergency medical situations.

  • Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job required; preferably 2 or more years of experience as a Paramedic.

  • Experience assessing and responding to emergent and non-emergent medical situations required.

  • Experience documenting clinical observations, interventions, adverse events, and related source data preferred.

  • Fortrea may consider relevant and equivalent experience and successful project outcomes in lieu of educational requirements.

Preferred Qualifications Include:

  • Experience working in a clinical research, hospital, emergency medical services, or comparable healthcare setting preferred.

  • Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP), study protocols, site standard operating procedures, Standing Orders, and applicable regulatory requirements preferred.

  • Ability to learn and apply location-specific procedures, including radiolabeling requirements where applicable, preferred.

  • Demonstrated professionalism, sound judgment, attention to detail, adaptability, and ability to remain composed in urgent or high-pressure situations preferred.

The important thing for us is you are comfortable working in an environment that is:

  • Fast paced: where no deviations from the study protocol are allowed, and not meeting a timeline for even few minutes will create a quality issue.

  • Changing priorities constantly asking you to prioritize and adapt on the spot.

  • Teamwork and people skills are essential for the study to run smoothly.

  • Technology based. We collect our data directly into an electronic environment.
