Job Description:

Johnson & Johnson is searching for the best talent to join our team as the Director, Global Solid Tumor Communications & Public Affairs. This is a hybrid in-person role with a required location of Raritan, NJ or Spring House, PA.

Job Description and Key Responsibilities 

This role will lead global Oncology Communications & Public Affairs for the Solid Tumor portfolio and pipeline, spanning lung, head and neck, and gastrointestinal cancers, as well as Interventional Oncology. Reporting to the Senior Director, Global Communications & Public Affairs, Solid Tumors, this leader will oversee product, reputation, public affairs, and organizational communications and partner across global, regional, market, and enterprise teams to support business priorities and strengthen stakeholder trust. 

As a key leader within Innovative Medicine Communications & Public Affairs, this individual will strengthen Johnson & Johnson’s reputation as a global innovator in solid tumors and foster collaboration and shared accountability across the organization. The role will serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders across key functions, translating business objectives and stakeholder insights into integrated strategies that balance global scale with local relevance. 

Key Responsibilities Include: 

Portfolio Communications & Public Affairs 

  • Lead integrated global communications and public affairs strategies for the Solid Tumor portfolio and pipeline, aligned with enterprise and business priorities and informed by market, stakeholder, and competitive insights. 
  • Partner with regional and market teams to co-create strategies that can be adapted and executed effectively across priority markets. 
  • Develop market-shaping strategies that anticipate external trends, strengthen engagement with policy, advocacy, and healthcare stakeholders, and support access, innovation, and growth. 
  • Lead business development communications for the portfolio and pipeline, articulating the value of external innovation as a driver of growth. 
  • Deliver measurable outcomes across earned, owned, shared, and paid channels while proactively managing issues and reputational risk.
     

Strategic Counsel & Executive Engagement 

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders across R&D, Global Commercial Strategy, Supply Chain, Business Development, Commercial, HR, Finance, Investor Relations, and Global Reputation & Engagement. 
  • Translate business priorities into effective communications and public affairs strategies, build alignment across complex stakeholder groups, and drive execution through influence. 
  • Position R&D and commercial leaders as credible voices on unmet need, scientific innovation, and the value of Johnson & Johnson’s oncology portfolio. 

Leadership & Ways of Working 

  • Champion the Innovative Medicine Communications & Public Affairs operating model by fostering co-creation, shared accountability, early market input, and adoption of best practices across global, regional, and market teams. 
  • Serve as a visible leader within the Oncology and Innovative Medicine Communications & Public Affairs communities, strengthening collaboration, agility, capability building, and organizational effectiveness. 
  • Lead and develop team members and agency partners by setting clear priorities and fostering an inclusive, high-performing culture focused on continuous improvement and measurable impact. 

Qualifications 

Education 

Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Policy, Life Sciences, or a related field preferred.  

Experience and Skills 

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in communications, public affairs, or related external engagement roles within a large company, NGO, government, or public relations agency.  
  • Deep understanding of the biopharmaceutical environment, including R&D, commercialization, access, policy, competitive, and reputational dynamics.  
  • Experience advising senior business, commercial, and scientific leaders and exercising sound judgment amid changing priorities.  
  • Success leading complex global initiatives, building alignment across functions and markets, and driving results through influence and collaboration.  
  • Ability to translate stakeholder and market insights into integrated strategies that deliver measurable business outcomes while balancing enterprise consistency with local relevance.  
  • Exceptional written, oral, and visual communication skills, with an emphasis on clear, concise, and audience-centered communication.  
  • Experience managing issues and reputational risk in a highly regulated environment.  
  • Strong strategic thinking, executive presence, organizational and analytical skills, attention to detail, executional discipline, and a sense of urgency.  
  • Experience leading and developing people and partners within an inclusive, high-performing culture. 

Preferred 

  • Experience in oncology or related specialty disease areas.  
  • Experience partnering with Public Affairs, Market Access, and Government Affairs.  
  • Experience working across multiple regions and markets. 

Other 

  • Up to 25% of domestic and international travel is required.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :

$150,000.00 - $258,750.00

Additional Description for Pay Transparency:

Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees are eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).

This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program.

Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:
Vacation –120 hours per calendar year
Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Colorado –48 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington –56 hours per calendar year
Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays –13 days per calendar year
Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
Parental Leave – 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child
Bereavement Leave – 240 hours for an immediate family member: 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year
Caregiver Leave – 80 hours in a 52-week rolling period10 days
Volunteer Leave – 32 hours per calendar year
Military Spouse Time-Off – 80 hours per calendar year
