Description
Civic Center Maintenance workers are responsible for providing a safe, well-maintained, and comfortable environment for staff and the public at the Civic Center. This position performs under the supervision of the Civic Center Manager. The job is part-time with job hours primarily on Saturdays and Sundays. Essential Functions

General Maintenance Responsibilities
- Perform cleaning and maintenance on operations department equipment to include Zambonis, ice edgers, dasher boards, and rink glass.
- Keep work areas and equipment organized and functional.
- Prepare ice for all practices, games and other ice events.
- Participate in cleaning, set-up, and disassembly of hockey glass, dasher boards, locker rooms, bleachers, and other event related equipment.
- Comply with OSHA regulations.
- Provide support as needed to support daily operational needs.
- Performing ice and arena maintenance to include edging, measuring and maintaining ice depths, cleaning rink glass, removing debris, maintaining dasher boards, maintaining safety nets, maintaining goal frames and netting.
- Assist in ice install and ice out.
- Knowledge of the process of logo installation and removal with regards to paint or textile.
- Provide ice cuts at specified times according to the ice schedule.
- Check the outside perimeter of the ice surface including goal nets and storage areas to ensure organization and cleanliness.
- Performs or assists in weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance and repairs of arena equipment to include ice resurfacer, ice edger, compressors, condenser, pumps and motors, dehumidifier, other HVAC equipment, facility items, etc.
- Regularly performs safety inspections on all ice equipment such as Zambonis, batteries, chargers, and ice-edgers. Reports any necessary repairs to the Civic Center Manager.
- Regularly inspects the refrigeration room to ensure proper glycol levels and overall safe operating conditions. Reports any necessary repairs to the Civic Center Manager.
Performs Other Essential Job Responsibilities
- Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as apparent or assigned.
- Nontraditional hours may be required, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Minimum Qualifications
18 years or older.
Valid MN Class D driver’s license
Minimum of one (1) year experience operating an ice resurfacer
Preferred Qualifications
3+ years working in facility ice operations
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to communicate well with employees and visitors of the Civic Center.
- Maintenance ability, communication skills, positive attitude and good judgement are most important.
- Ability to provide a quality ice surface and dry floor events.
- Possess initiative to undertake tasks that do not require specific or formal direction.
- Mechanical aptitude and experience.
- Ability to lift heavy materials.
- Ability to work off ladders and scaffolds.
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
- Ability to follow through with assignments in a timely and accurate manner.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public courteously and tactfully.
- Ability to follow and promote safe work practices.
- Customer service skills including the ability to maintain composure under stress.
