Maintenance Technician
Location: AMS Little Rock – 6423 Stagecoach Rd. Little Rock, AR 72204
Compensation: $18.00 – $26.00 per hour, DOE
Position Overview
Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing K–8 public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities.
AMS Arkansas represents our first expansion beyond Arizona, and we are excited to serve students and families in the Little Rock community. Creating a safe, functional, and welcoming campus is an essential part of providing students and staff with an environment where they can thrive.
AMS is seeking a proactive and skilled Maintenance Technician to support the daily operation and upkeep of our Little Rock campus. This position plays an important role in maintaining the school building, grounds, equipment, and facilities while responding to routine and urgent maintenance needs throughout the school day.
Key Responsibilities
Perform routine, preventative, and emergency building maintenance throughout the campus, including plumbing, painting, HVAC filter replacement, minor electrical work, carpentry, and general repairs
Inspect building systems, equipment, and facilities to identify maintenance needs and address potential issues before they become larger problems
Maintain restrooms, classrooms, hallways, cafeteria areas, common spaces, and other campus facilities in safe and functional condition
Troubleshoot general facility and equipment issues and complete repairs within the scope of the position
Track, maintain, and reorder custodial and maintenance supplies as needed
Maintain accurate records of completed work, materials used, preventative maintenance, and scheduled repairs
Follow established safety procedures for equipment operation, chemical handling, and workplace safety
Maintain the security and proper storage of campus facilities equipment, tools, and supplies
Prioritize maintenance requests based on safety, urgency, and operational impact
Communicate facility concerns, repair needs, and project updates to school leadership in a timely and professional manner
Assist with larger campus projects and coordinate with external vendors or licensed contractors when specialized repairs are required
Support campus setup, special events, and other facility needs as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
3+ years of maintenance, facilities, building operations, or related repair experience
Experience troubleshooting and completing general building repairs
Working knowledge of multiple maintenance areas, such as plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general facilities repair
Ability to safely operate common maintenance tools and equipment
Ability to prioritize urgent repairs and safety concerns while managing routine maintenance requests
Strong communication, time-management, organization, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with school leadership, staff, vendors, and contractors
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., move equipment and supplies, and perform work indoors and outdoors as needed
Background Requirements
Candidates must be able to successfully complete all background and clearance requirements applicable to employment in an Arkansas public charter school, including:
Child Maltreatment Central Registry check
Required fingerprinting and applicable Arkansas Department of Education background clearance
