Head, Personal Insurance Advice (HNW)
The Opportunity
We’re building a new business inside BMO Insurance: a High-Net-Worth personal insurance offering that draws on BMO’s Wealth, Banking, and Insurance strengths, and on the client relationships and advisory reach we already have. This is a ground-up job — strategy, distribution model, operating framework, client experience, all still to be defined. Nothing like this exists at BMO today, and there’s real room to shape how HNW insurance advice gets done in this market. It’s not a maintenance role. We need someone who’s comfortable without a playbook, who can build a business and move it through a large organization, and who’ll act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders while building the team and partnerships behind the growth.
What You’ll Do
Build and scale the business
- Own the HNW Personal Insurance Advice business end to end
- Set the strategy, operating model, distribution approach, and growth plan
- Build sales and distribution strategies that fit BMO Insurance’s broader growth agenda
- Set priorities and success measures, and drive execution against them
- Assess opportunities and challenges independently and bring recommendations
Lead distribution and relationships
- Build referral and distribution relationships across the enterprise
- Drive sales and marketing to grow with new and existing clients
- Build trust with senior leaders and partners so insurance advice gets folded into broader client conversations
- Own key relationships with internal stakeholders, distribution partners, insurers, and external partners
- Contribute to insurer negotiations and support expansion into new markets
Deliver a strong client experience
- Build a differentiated HNW client value proposition that supports retention and growth
- Build relationship management strategies for acquisition, engagement, and retention
- Step in on escalated client or sales issues and resolve them in the client’s and the business’s interest
- Set the standard for a client experience that reflects well on BMO
Build the team and the capability
- Hire and develop the team as the business grows
- Build a culture of accountability, collaboration, and client focus
- Build and evolve the HNW program’s capabilities over time
- Build the tools, training, and sales enablement the team needs
- Help internal partners understand where insurance advice fits into broader client planning
Run it well
- Keep processes scalable, efficient, and high-quality as the business grows
- Define what reporting and analytics are needed to make good decisions
- Meet legal, regulatory, compliance, and risk requirements
- Apply BMO’s Risk Management Framework
- Own governance controls that keep operational and regulatory risk in check
What You Bring
- 10+ years of progressive leadership in insurance, wealth management, private client, or financial services
- Strong HNW personal insurance, personal lines, wealth advisory, or estate planning expertise
- A track record of building and executing growth, sales, and distribution strategies
- Experience building new businesses or capabilities inside a complex organization
- Deep knowledge of insurance distribution, market trends, and client acquisition
- Strong relationship and influencing skills across diverse stakeholders
- Strong commercial judgment and a record of delivering results
- Experience leading initiatives across matrixed organizations and multiple business partners
- Sharp analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Comfort operating without an established playbook
- Bilingual (English/French) preferred
Why This Role
You’d be building something that doesn’t exist yet — shaping HNW personal insurance advice at BMO from scratch, backed by the scale and reputation of one of Canada’s leading financial institutions. You’d have the mandate and the visibility to set the strategy, build the partnerships, build the team, and grow something that’s genuinely different in the Canadian market.
