Department Overview
Are you passionate about creating products with real-world impact? Do you believe that comprehensive, user-centric design can address the complex challenges facing public safety today? At Motorola Solutions, we seek to innovate in our ongoing pursuit of solving for safer. We develop truly essential, professional tools - from emergency call-taking and dispatch systems to video security solutions, first responder applications and tools for investigation. Join our diverse, AI-forward, multidisciplinary design team and find work partners looking to collaborate and blur the boundaries of traditional design.
Job Description
As an AI-Native UX Designer at Motorola Solutions, you will drive two mandates at once: design world-class experiences for mission-critical public safety products and help change how our global UX team designs them.
You will collaborate with product managers, developers, data scientists, subject matter experts, and other members of the global UX team to design the next generation of public safety applications, enabling a design-led product development process rooted in human-centered, persona-driven methodologies while integrating AI-assisted techniques into your daily workflow.
We are looking for a skilled designer with a proven record of shipping intuitive, end-to-end solutions for complex systems. Beyond core craft, you are an early adopter who works non-linearly - running parallel explorations, prototyping early, and leveraging AI tools to quickly validate ideas. You challenge traditional design paradigms without compromising quality by proving new methods on real products, sharing insights globally, adopting effective tools, and retiring outdated ones.
Because our products support first responders in critical moments, you will apply AI design methods with clear intent: knowing when to automate, when to keep a human in the loop, and how to design for trust in systems that behave probabilistically.
Basic Requirements
Responsibilities Include
AI-Forward Prototyping & Execution: Use modern design tools, AI, and rapid prototyping workflows to quickly build testable artifacts, including wireframes, system flows, and interactive or code-based prototypes, that clearly communicate design intent.
Process Modernization & Tool Evaluation: Run structured, time-boxed experiments with emerging AI tools and methods on real product work; recommend what the global UX team should adopt, standardize, or retire, and help integrate the winners into daily workflows to drive speed and operational consistency.
Innovate & Validate: Define "North Star" product visions for intelligent systems through collaboration with researchers to validate human-AI interaction patterns and conduct rigorous usability testing for mission-critical scenarios.
Basic Requirements
Proven track record delivering comprehensive, intuitive, end-to-end solutions for complex systems, demonstrated through a portfolio.
Demonstrated fluency in integrating modern AI tools (e.g., generative ideation, prompt-assisted design, AI plugins, automated workflows, or AI prototyping) into your process to accelerate discovery, iteration, and execution. Be prepared to walk through your workflow and toolset, not just final artifacts.
Ability to articulate the rationale behind design decisions, especially as they pertain to human-in-the-loop interactions, automation boundaries, and data-driven features.
A challenger's mindset paired with craft discipline: comfort questioning established processes and a desire to bring your peers along in new working methodologies.
Passion for research-fueled rapid ideation and emerging design paradigms (e.g., adaptive UIs, predictive workflows, and agentic UX).
A self-starter mindset with a strong drive for cross-functional collaboration.
Advanced proficiency with Figma and deep knowledge of emerging AI tools that may unseat its current standardization.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience prototyping with code or AI coding assistants — building functional prototypes rather than static mockups.
Familiarity with designing for AI systems: model capabilities and limitations, error and uncertainty states, evaluating the quality of AI outputs.
Experience complex enterprise domains.
Demonstrable experience introducing new tools or processes into a design organization and guiding teams through change.
You Might Be a Great Fit If
You'd rather put a working prototype in front of a user this week than wait for a perfected slide deck: you know when to polish and when to learn.
AI is already a daily partner in your practice: not a feature you design around, but a tool you design with.
You track where model capabilities are heading and design for where the technology will be in a year, not only where it is today.
When You Apply
Alongside, or within your portfolio, include a link to one thing you've built with AI assistance: a prototype, a tool, a website or an experiment - we want to see at least one working artifact.
