Description

When you join Verizon

You want more out of a career. A place to share your ideas freely — even if they’re daring or different. Where the true you can learn, grow, and thrive. At Verizon, we power and empower how people live, work and play by connecting them to what brings them joy. We do what we love — driving innovation, creativity, and impact in the world. Our V Team is a community of people who anticipate, lead, and believe that listening is where learning begins. In crisis and in celebration, we come together — lifting our communities and building trust in how we show up, everywhere & always. Want in? Join the #VTeamLife.

The AI and Analytics Organization is a center of excellence supporting the Verizon Consumer Group in building data-driven experiences for customers and internal teams. You'll work closely with Business Stakeholders, Data Scientists, Data Engineers, and Software Developers to design and deliver agentic analytics solutions that generate substantial, measurable value for the business.

What you'll be doing...

You will be the semantic layer and conversational analytics expert for VCG analytics — building the governed LookML foundation that powers both self-service dashboards and natural-language query interfaces. You will translate complex consumer business questions into reliable, reusable data models and connect them to modern AI-assisted analytics experiences. As the team expands into intelligent, automated analytics workflows, you will help shape how those workflows are grounded in accurate, governed data. This is an individual contributor role — you will contribute to the conversational analytics capability within the team.

Responsibilities include:

  • Semantic Layer Development: Build, govern, and optimize enterprise-grade LookML models from near-scratch — translating business KPIs into governed, reusable Explores, derived tables, and metrics that serve as the single source of truth for dashboards and AI-assisted query interfaces.

  • Conversational Analytics: Design and deliver natural-language query experiences grounded in the LookML semantic layer, enabling business users to ask questions in plain language and receive accurate, metric-consistent answers. Ensure the semantic layer functions reliably as the data backbone for AI-assisted and chat-based analytics tools.

  • SQL & Data Modeling: Author high-performance SQL for complex, large-scale consumer datasets in BigQuery. Build and maintain scalable data models that support both exploratory analysis and production reporting. Implement data validation procedures to ensure model accuracy and reliability.

  • Visualization & Reporting: Create interactive dashboards and visualizations in Looker that translate analytical outputs into actionable business insight. Monitor deployed models and dashboards, identifying and resolving issues proactively.

  • Workflow Integration: Connect analytics delivery to structured intake processes — translating business requests into well-scoped data and modeling tasks. As the team builds toward more automated analytical workflows, contribute to the design of how data models and semantic definitions are consumed programmatically.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Meet with business clients to gather solution requests and data requirements. Translate consumer behavior, churn, and revenue questions into scalable analytical products. Communicate technical findings effectively.

What we're looking for...

You are drawn to the science of analytics with an eye toward improving performance and predictability. You develop resolutions to complex problems using sharp judgment to design methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria that make a real impact. You can communicate technical information clearly to non-technical audiences and take pride in sharing your knowledge with peers.

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.

  • Four or more years of experience across Analytics Engineering, Data Engineering, or Applied AI roles.

  • Deep expertise in LookML development (Explores, derived tables, liquid parameters) and structuring business logic into standardized semantic layers.

  • Experience building and delivering conversational or natural-language analytics interfaces — connecting LLM-based query tools, chatbot interfaces, or AI assistants to governed data models.

  • Hands-on experience with BigQuery and high-performance SQL for large-scale consumer datasets.

  • Exposure to AI/LLM tooling — including prompt engineering, function calling, and connecting language models to structured data sources — with an understanding of where governed semantic layers are essential for reliable AI output.

  • Experience building interactive visualizations and self-service dashboards in Looker or similar BI platforms.

  • Experience applying statistical ideas and methods to datasets to answer business problems.

  • Familiarity with Git version control, including basic commands, branching, and pushing/pulling code changes.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Prior exposure to telecom, subscription services, or consumer technology analytics — particularly around churn, ARPU, and subscriber metrics.

  • Experience with agentic analytics workflows — building or contributing to multi-step, automated analytical pipelines where LLM agents execute queries, perform root-cause analysis, or synthesize insights with minimal human intervention.

  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform.

  • Familiarity with dashboard design principles and visual science.

  • A passion for educating and communicating analytic findings with integrity — from collaborating with colleagues on raw output to creating presentations that succinctly convey complex ideas to strategic business partners.

If Verizon and this role sound like a fit for you, we encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every "even better" qualification listed above.
