Position Details:

What You'll Do

As a Patient Care Technician, you'll work alongside nurses and healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional patient care and create a safe, compassionate environment.

Daily Responsibilities Include:

โœ… Assisting patients with personal hygiene and daily care needs

โœ… Supporting mobility, ambulation, repositioning, and patient comfort

โœ… Monitoring and documenting vital signs and patient information in the electronic medical record

โœ… Assisting with admissions, discharges, and patient transfers

โœ… Collecting specimens and performing point-of-care testing as assigned

โœ… Observing and reporting changes in patient conditions

โœ… Supporting patient safety initiatives and infection prevention practices

โœ… Performing clerical duties including answering phones and monitoring unit communication systems

Advanced Skills You May Perform

With additional training and competency validation, PCTs may assist with:

  • Blood cultures
  • Enteral tube feeding
  • Wound care and non-sterile dressing changes
  • IV removal
  • Chest tube setup
  • Suture tray setup
  • Visual acuity assessments
  • Pelvic exam setup
  • Burn dressing changes and debridement
  • Whirlpool wound care treatments

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • CNA, CPCT, healthcare career program student, OR
  • Age 18+ and eligible for Mercy's UAP Training Program
  • BLS Certification within one month of hire
  • Completion of PCT competencies within three months of hire

No Experience?

No problem. Mercy provides a 175-hour state-approved training program during orientation for qualified candidates with no prior healthcare experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
  • Paramedic
  • Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT)
  • Advanced Unlicensed Assistant (AUA)
  • Previous patient care experience

Physical Requirements

This role requires the ability to:

  • Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly
  • Stand and walk for extended periods
  • Bend, kneel, squat, twist, reach, and grip throughout the shift
