Job Description

The Part-Time Temporary AI Subject Matter Expert reports to the Interim Lead of AI Innovation and Stewardship and serves as a strategic subject matter expert who will have a small team of people to support the College's AI innovation and stewardship efforts. Working collaboratively with the Lead for AI Innovation and Stewardship, this position conducts institutional AI readiness assessments, evaluates organizational opportunities and risks, facilitates cross-functional stakeholder engagement, synthesizes research, and develops actionable recommendations that inform institutional planning and responsible AI adoption.

The position provides professional expertise in assessing organizational capacity for AI, identifying implementation priorities, researching governance considerations, and supporting evidence-based decision-making related to AI across academic, administrative, and operational functions. Through research, assessment, analysis, and collaboration, the Senior Specialist helps strengthen institutional readiness and advance responsible AI innovation.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

1. Institutional AI Readiness Assessment

  • Works with units to conduct AI readiness assessments across academic, administrative, and operational divisions using established assessment methodologies.

  • Evaluates organizational capabilities, workforce preparedness, technology readiness, governance structures, and change management considerations for AI adoption.

  • Identifies capability gaps, adoption barriers, and institutional readiness priorities.

  • Develops and refines assessment frameworks, evaluation instruments, and supporting documentation that guide institutional AI planning.

  • Synthesizes assessment findings into actionable recommendations for leadership.

2. Strategic Analysis, Research, and Benchmarking

  • Analyzes institutional functions, workflows, and business processes to identify opportunities where AI may improve effectiveness, efficiency, or service delivery.

  • Evaluates AI-related risks, including ethical, legal, operational, privacy, security, accessibility, and workforce implications.

  • Conducts benchmarking research examining AI governance, policy development, organizational readiness, and implementation practices across higher education, government, and industry.

  • Monitors emerging AI technologies, regulatory developments, and best practices to inform institutional planning and strategic decision-making.

  • Develops analytical reports and evidence-based recommendations that support AI governance and innovation initiatives.

3. Stakeholder Engagement and Institutional Collaboration

  • Partners with the Lead for AI Innovation and Stewardship to design and facilitate stakeholder engagement activities, workshops, focus groups, and collaborative planning sessions.

  • Engages faculty, staff, administrators, and operational leaders to identify priorities, opportunities, concerns, and implementation needs.

  • Synthesizes qualitative and quantitative stakeholder feedback to identify emerging themes and institutional priorities.

  • Builds collaborative relationships that promote shared understanding, organizational readiness, and responsible AI adoption.

4. Strategic Reporting and Program Support

  • Develops reports, presentations, dashboards, briefing materials, and strategic summaries for institutional leadership.

  • Collects, analyzes, and synthesizes data from assessments, surveys, pilot initiatives, and stakeholder engagement activities.

  • Maintains institutional AI inventories, readiness documentation, assessment records, and project tracking systems.

  • Translates complex technical and organizational findings into clear, actionable recommendations for diverse audiences.

  • Supports implementation planning by monitoring initiative progress, documenting outcomes, and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of artificial intelligence applications, governance, and emerging trends in higher education.

  • Knowledge of organizational assessment, strategic planning, institutional effectiveness, and change management principles.

  • Ability to conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis and synthesize complex information into executive-level recommendations.

  • Strong facilitation, stakeholder engagement, and consensus-building skills.

  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

  • Demonstrated analytical, research, and project management skills.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in Education or related field with demonstrated expertise in artificial intelligence, higher education assessment, organizational change, institutional research, or related experience.

Salary Information

$29.60/hr

AI readiness is assessed across identified academic, administrative, and operational divisions.

Organizational capability gaps and implementation barriers are identified and prioritized for action.

High-value AI opportunities and associated risks are evaluated and documented to support responsible decision-making.

Stakeholder input is incorporated into institutional AI planning through structured engagement activities and synthesis of qualitative and quantitative data.

AI implementation planning is informed by researched tools, ongoing assessment findings, benchmarking research, and evaluation of pilot initiatives.
