Description

At Hi-Way Paving, we are general contractors in the construction field that specialize in significant amounts of concrete paving, storm drainage, and excavation on highways and airfields.

The People & Talent Coordinator is a key member of the People and Talent team, responsible for supporting recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, and training coordination for our Nashville operations. This role combines talent acquisition support with on-site people operations, serving as the main HR contact for Nashville-based employees while helping drive our hiring efforts in a growing market.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and eager to grow their skills in recruiting and HR. They will own the administrative side of talent acquisition, posting jobs, assisting with screening candidates, coordinating offers and onboarding, while also building relationships with employees and managers in the field. This role requires strong communication skills, the ability to manage multiple processes simultaneously, and a collaborative approach to supporting the broader People and Talent team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to make a tangible impact on a growing construction company, develop their recruiting and HR skills, and be the face of People and Talent in our Nashville office.

What You'll Do:

Recruiting and Talent Acquisition

  • Post and manage job openings in Paylocity, WordPress, and statewide job boards.
  • Track open positions and hiring progress using internal trackers and systems.
  • Screen candidates to identify qualified applicants; learn to assess fit and qualifications with coaching from the Talent Manager.
  • Coordinate interviews with hiring managers and candidates.
  • Send offer letters and communicate offer details to candidates.
  • Order and manage drug screens, background checks, and MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) checks until completion.
  • Coordinate ordering of credit cards, fuel cards, and technology for new hires.
  • Maintain talent acquisition tracker, open positions tracker, and referral tracker.

Onboarding & New Hire Processing

  • Launch onboarding packets in Paylocity and work with new hires to complete required documents.
  • Ensure onboarding packets are completed fully and correctly on Day 1.
  • Conduct new hire orientation for all Nashville hires.
  • Coordinate first-day logistics, reporting instructions, and manager communication.
  • Run E-Verify, download and send MVRs to the insurance company, and process new hires in Paylocity.
  • Make manual profile updates as needed and save compliance documents to SharePoint.
  • Communicate with new hires throughout the pre-hire and onboarding process to ensure a smooth experience.

Nashville HR Support & Employee Relations

  • Serve as the main HR contact for Nashville-based employees.
  • Handle employee questions, concerns, and escalations (benefits-related questions are routed to the People Operations Coordinator).
  • Translate documents and communications for the Spanish-speaking workforce.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and documentation in HRIS.
  • Visit field sites as needed to maintain People & Talent team visibility and build relationships with crews and managers.
  • Assist with employee engagement events and coordinate employee gifts and recognition.

Training Coordination Support

  • Assist the Training Manager with coordinating training materials, logistics, and scheduling.
  • Support training needs as they arise across Nashville operations.

Tracking & Administration

  • Update employee records in Paylocity (rate changes, position changes) as needed.
  • Support the People & Talent team's projects and initiatives.
  • Maintain accuracy and organization of HR files and systems.

Requirements

What We Look For:

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of experience in HR, recruiting, talent acquisition, or related field.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a variety of audiences (candidates, employees, managers).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and processes simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Primarily onsite in our Nashville office with occasional remote work once established. Field site visits as needed.
  • Comfortable with a flexible work schedule as needed to support hiring and employee needs.
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Ability to gain clearance for restricted/high-security zones (e.g., airport AOA, military bases).
    • Valid driver’s license.
    • Must be at least 18 years old to meet job-site safety and labor requirements.

Strongly Preferred

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) to support our Spanish-speaking workforce.
  • Experience with Paylocity or other HRIS/ATS systems.
  • Experience in construction, manufacturing, or field-based industries.
  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Business Administration, Communications, or related field.
