Context

It is rare to find an infrastructure project immune to budget and political cycles, but this one has a career horizon stretching all the way to 2086. We are looking for a Rail Systems Lead to join the Newcastle–Sydney HSR corridor—a 100% renewable, greenfield network that is setting a new global standard for engineering excellence.

Missions/Main Duties

In this role, you will be the technical glue for the programme. You will hold accountability for integrating every discipline that makes the trains move—from track and alignment to ERTMS signalling and rolling stock—ensuring that the complex web of systems works seamlessly with the civil and tunnel infrastructure.

Profile/Skills

  • Hold technical accountability for the integration of all railway systems disciplines—including track, overhead line equipment, signalling (ERTMS), traction power, communications, and rolling stock.

  • Own the systems integration design process, managing interfaces between all railway systems and civil/tunnel infrastructure.

  • Ensure envelope, load, and interface requirements are resolved and formally recorded in Interface Control Documents.

  • Lead the development of the railway systems design standards framework, applying TSI, ARTC, and TfNSW technical standards to produce a coherent set of requirements.

  • Act as the principal technical interface with the Contractor's systems procurement team during the ECI phase.

  • Provide design input into tender specifications and review contractor technical proposals to identify value engineering opportunities.

  • Manage the systems contribution to whole-of-life design thinking, focusing on maintenance access, operational safety envelopes, and stabling interfaces.

  • Ensure operational outcomes, including the Operational Control Centre (OCC) concept design, are embedded from the earliest stages.

  • Co-ordinate with the Assurance Director and Requirements Manager to ensure all design outputs are traceable to client requirements and safety cases.

  • Establish and maintain systems integration verification plans across the ECI phase.

If you are ready to put the "greenest thing possible" on your CV and manage a technical legacy that moves the needle for decades to come, we want to hear from you.
