Organization's Summary Statement:
The Department of the Built Environment in the School of Business, Engineering, Applied Sciences, Technology, and Tourism Management at The University of Maryland Eastern Shore invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position to support the Career and Technical Education programs while also coordinating the certificate programs in Work-Based Learning (WBL) and Career Counseling starting in August 2026. This position will be stationed at the Baltimore Museum of Industry (BMI), 1425 Key Hwy., Suite 101, Baltimore, MD.

About the Department
The Department of the Built Environment is one of seven departments in the School of Business, Engineering, Applied Sciences, Technology, and Tourism Management. With six tenure track/tenured faculty, a non-tenure track Director, and approximately 20 part-time adjuncts; the department serves around 200 students on the Princess Anne campus and 250 students at our off-campus sites. The two primary off-campus sites are located at the Universities at Shady Grove in Rockville, Maryland and the Baltimore Museum of Industry (BMI) in Baltimore, Maryland. The CTE, WBL, and Technology and Engineering Education programs are operated from the BMI location.

The department currently offers two undergraduate degree programs including Construction Management Technology and Technology and Engineering Education, and a Master's Degree in Career and Technical Education. The Construction Management Technology Program (B.S.) meets the curriculum standards of the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE), and the Technology and Engineering Education Program (B.S.) and Career and Technical Education Program (M.Ed.) meet the curriculum standards set forth by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). The Career and Technical Education programs at BMI also offer unique state approved certificate programs that lead to state CTE teaching licensure or the state WBL coordinator endorsement.

About the University
Enrolling over 2,500 students, The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is a land-grant, historically black college founded in 1886 as the Delaware Conference Academy. Since its beginning, the institution has had several name changes and governing bodies. It was Maryland State College from 1948 until 1970, when it became one of the five campuses that formed the University of Maryland. In 1988, it became a member of the then eleven campus (now thirteen) University of Maryland System, now known as the University System of Maryland. UMES is approved by the state of Maryland and fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The university is located approximately 15 miles south of Salisbury, Maryland within easy commuting distance to Baltimore, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, and New York. The Baltimore Museum of Industry, where the CTE, WBL, and T&E education programs are operated, is conveniently located off of Interstate 95 overlooking the inner harbor between the Federal Hill and Locust Point areas in downtown Baltimore.

Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, responsibilities include:
•Serving as Coordinator of Work-Based Learning and Career Counselor
•Marketing and recruitment for the CTE and WBL programs to grow enrollment.
•Advise students and assist with applying and enrolling in courses.
•Hold weekly office hours at BMI for student meetings, answering phone calls,
and attending meetings with the administrative assistant, faculty and the
Program Director.
•Teach both hybrid courses in person at BMI and online courses.
•Update existing courses and develop new courses in Canvas and Curriculog.
•Help with preparing CTE and WBL courses in Canvas for adjunct instructors to
utilize.
•Periodically update program documents and curriculum to stay in alignment
with COMAR and accreditation criteria.
•Collecting of data and completion of reports for accreditation and state
program re-approvals.
•Develop new courses and program proposals as educational needs in the state
evolve.
•Conduct rigorous research on CTE, WBL, or TEE related topics.
•Publish research in leading peer reviewed journals and present at professional
CTE, WBL, and TEE educator/researcher conferences annually.
•Pursue and obtain external grant funding to benefit the university and the CTE
programs.
•Collaborate with stakeholders such as the MD State Department of Education
and local school systems for recruitment, outreach, and research efforts.
•Attend quarterly state CTE curriculum director meetings.
•Visit local school systems to conduct observations and evaluations of teacher
interns from the CTE, WBL, or TEE programs.
•Maintain the confidentiality of program information and records.
•This position includes regular interaction with various departments, faculty, and
staff on the main campus.
•Travel to main campus for opening semester ceremonies and graduation each
semester.
•Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
•An earned doctorate in Workforce Education, Career and Technical Education,
WBL, Cooperative Education, Career Counseling, Technology and Engineering
Education, Engineering Education, Educational Leadership, or a closely related
field is required at the time of appointment.
•Note: Individuals with degrees outside of the US may be subject to verification.
Verification of degree is the responsibility of the candidate.

Preference will be given to candidates who have the following attributes:
•Evidence of strong interpersonal, oral and written communication.
•Collaborative experiences among local schools and workforce partners.
•Computer and critical thinking abilities.
•Experience with accreditation.
•Excellent presentation skills.
•Professional experience at the secondary education level with
WBL/cooperative education,
career counseling, or as a career and technical educator.
•Graduate advising and teaching.
•Online course development and delivery.
•Conducting and publishing high quality research.
•Directing student theses or dissertations.
•Involving graduate students in research.
•Earned licensure/certification in a CTE/industry/counseling related area, and
potential for national leadership in the field.

Physical Demands:
•May require extended periods of standing, bending, stooping, sitting at desk.
•May require lifting.
•Requires communication with a variety of constituents externally and internally.
•Requires operation of a variety of office equipment.
