Your Code Could Help Save a Life

At Bristol Myers Squibb, the programs you write, the datasets you build, and the outputs you validate feed directly into the regulatory submissions that bring new medicines to patients who need them most.

This isn't just a programming job. It's a chance to sit at the intersection of data science and drug development - where your technical precision has a real, measurable impact on clinical outcomes around the world.

What Your Day-to-Day Actually Looks Like

You'll be embedded within our Global Biometrics & Data Sciences (GBDS) team, working closely with clinical project teams, external vendors, and cross-functional colleagues across the full drug development lifecycle. No two days are the same, but here's a flavour of what you'll be doing:

  • Writing and validating SAS/R programs to produce derived analysis datasets and the tables, listings, and figures (TFLs) that underpin clinical evidence — knowing that every output you produce is held to the highest standard of accuracy
  • Contributing to regulatory submissions (think NDAs, BLAs, MAAs) - this is your chance to be part of the team that gets a medicine over the line
  • Reviewing key planning documents like Statistical Analysis Plans, so you're always connected to the bigger picture and can anticipate exactly what's needed before it's needed
  • Leading programming assignments independently across multiple projects - you'll have real ownership here, not just task tickets
  • Spotting and driving efficiencies \- if you see a smarter way to do something, we want to hear it

What You Bring to the Table

You're not just a coder. You're someone who understands why the data matters and takes pride in getting it right.

You'll need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or a Life Sciences discipline
  • At least 2 years of industry programming experience
  • Solid, demonstrable proficiency in SAS for producing derived datasets and TFLs
  • A firm grasp of CDISC standards, clinical data structures, and relational databases
  • Hands-on experience with SDTM, ADaM, Data Definition Tables and e-submissions
  • Familiarity with tools like Pinnacle 21, XML, and MS Office
  • A working knowledge of regulatory and industry standards - you understand the rules and the reasons behind them

Bonus points if you have:

  • Experience supporting regulatory filings (NDA, BLA or MAA) within a pharma environment
  • Comfort working with R or R-Shiny \- we're evolving and so should our toolkit
  • Exposure to real-world data or real-world evidence \- this space is growing fast and your experience here will be genuinely valued

Why BMS — And Why Now?

  • You'll have balance. Our hybrid model means 50% of your time is onsite in our modern Uxbridge office - enough face time to build strong relationships and stay connected to the team, with the flexibility to do your best focused work from home too.
  • You'll be heard. We actively encourage our programmers to identify efficiency gains and contribute to improvement initiatives. Your ideas won't disappear into a suggestion box - they'll be acted on.
