General Geology - EPSC 221- Fall 2026 (3 Credits)
Course Description:
An introductory course in physical geology designed for majors in civil and mining engineering. Properties of rocks and minerals, major geological processes, together with natural hazards and their effects on engineered structures are emphasized. The laboratory is an integral part of the course which includes rock and mineral identification, basic techniques of air photo and geological map interpretation, and structural geology.
Job Description:
This course consists of two, 1-hour lectures and one 3-hour lab per week for 13 weeks per term (31-Aug-2026 to 04-Dec-2026). The final exam must be invigilated by the instructor and could be centrally scheduled anytime (i.e. daytime or evening) during the Dec. 7-22 period.
You will be responsible for teaching, course management, creating exam materials and lab materials, some grading, and managing teaching assistants (TAs), who will assist with labs and grading. The number of TAs is linked to the enrollment, which is forecast to be 144 students.
Teaching Qualification Requirements:
PhD. in Earth & Planetary Sciences or equivalent education
Expertise in the content of the course, previous teaching experience in large enrollment courses preferrable.
