Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Concrete Project Superintendent is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing all structural concrete operations for wastewater treatment plant construction projects. This position oversees field personnel, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure concrete work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with project specifications and quality standards. The Superintendent works closely with the Project Manager, Project Engineer, and client representatives to deliver successful project outcomes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safety:
- Responsible for overall job safety as per the safety manual for the particular job.
- Insure that Test holes are dug where required and marked out.
- Report any damage to Utility lines to the Project Manager.
- Ensure that jobsite meets all OSHA standards including cleanliness.
- Ensure that everyone on the site is following all safety protocols – AHA’s and Tool Box Talks.
Concrete Operations:
- Plan and supervise all structural concrete activities, including foundations, equipment pads, walls, slabs, tanks, channels, clarifiers, digesters, and other wastewater process structures.
- Coordinate reinforcing steel, embedded items, formwork, concrete placement, finishing, curing, waterproofing, and concrete testing.
- Verify work complies with project drawings, specifications, tolerances, and quality standards.
- Coordinate concrete deliveries, pumping operations, inspections, and testing agencies.
- Monitor production and adjust manpower and equipment to maintain schedule.
Project Execution:
- Direct daily activities of field crews and subcontractors.
- Coordinate work with civil, mechanical, electrical, process piping, and equipment installation teams.
- Identify and resolve field conflicts before they impact schedule or budget.
- Maintain project quality while maximizing productivity.
Planning & Scheduling:
- Develop and maintain short-term work plans and rolling two-week look-ahead schedules.
- Coordinate labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors with the Project Manager.
- Plan concrete pours, curing schedules, and sequencing to support overall project milestones.
- Participate in weekly planning and coordination meetings.
Quality Control:
- Ensure all concrete work meets project specifications, ACI standards, and contract requirements.
- Coordinate inspections with owners, engineers, and testing laboratories.
- Review concrete test reports and address deficiencies promptly.
- Verify proper installation of reinforcing steel, embeds, anchor bolts, and formwork before placement.
Administration:
- Review and approve daily labor and equipment reports.
- Complete daily reports, production tracking, and field documentation.
- Maintain as-built information and support project documentation requirements.
Supervision:
- Supervises and ensures that all tasks are carried out by Foreman.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 7 years of heavy civil or industrial concrete construction experience, including at least 3 years as a Superintendent on wastewater/water treatment, industrial, or similar concrete-intensive projects.
- Extensive experience constructing reinforced concrete structures, including tanks, vaults, basins, foundations, and process structures.
- Strong understanding of ACI standards, concrete placement procedures, curing methods, and quality control.
- Experience coordinating multiple subcontractors and self-perform concrete crews.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules.
- Experience with HeavyJob, Procore, Primavera P6, or similar construction management software is preferred.
- Excellent leadership, communication, planning, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, quality, and schedule.
