Job Summary:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The basic responsibilities of the Purchasing Agent – Truck/Automotive Parts includes, but is not limited to the following:
- Direct the purchase of truck/automotive part stock and non-stock inventory for multiple locations.
- Administer the inventory control and re-buying functions.
- Follow the company’s general purchasing policy; establish inventory levels per location and maintain a good relationship with suppliers and vendor representatives.
- Negotiate prices and makes purchases of quantity items in relation to the best purchase price, discounts, terms and timely delivery.
- Order parts or supplies needed for the daily repair of equipment at many locations.
- Expedite stock orders and direct special orders and drop shipped items.
- Supervise the taking of inventory by cycle counting or other methods; select and train employees to assist in the taking of inventory and entry into the computer system.
- Review supplier invoices, adjust and solve problems with suppliers.
- Maintain required reports and records on file with proper entry of purchases, transfers, price changes into computer purchasing program.
- Oversee the processing of all returned goods, parts / cores.
- Work with fleet personnel on directing site mechanics and equipment and shop repairs home facility.
- Advise management of vendor promotions, specials, new products, and policy changes for cost savings and effective control of inventory.
- Work directly with the Fleet Administrator and accounts payable group in regard to billing or pricing issues.

Education and/or Experience Requirements:
- High School degree
- Five to seven years of progressive experience purchasing truck/automotive parts or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Must have background in heavy equipment repair, or direct knowledge of heavy trucks/trailers operating systems.
Language Skills:
- Must be able to read, write and speak English.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with customers, vendors and inter company personnel.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must be willing to get a CDL if asked.
