Clinical Research Midwife - Heat and Health Research Centre

• Part time 0.6 FTE, 2 year Fixed Term (with a possible extension), located at the Central Clinical School, Camperdown Campus, part of the Faculty of Medicine and Health

• Exciting opportunity for a Clinical Research Midwife to support the conduct of clinical research activities in the Heat and Health Research Centre

• Base Salary HEO 6, $107,312 p.a., pro-rata + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The Clinical Research Midwife supports the clinical trial process, from planning to execution, ensuring a seamless transition through all stages.  The midwife will support the HEaT inform study being conducted in the climate chamber at Sydney University and investigating pregnant women's physiological responses to different temperature conditions. They handle data capture, verification, and overall adherence to standards while fostering relationships with research staff and stakeholders. They ensure Good Clinical Practice and that every aspect of the trial meets the highest ethical and scientific standards.  Provide clinical care within scope of registration and professional practice, where required as part of the study protocol, including responding to medical events or emergencies during study activities.

Reporting to Professor Adrienne Gordon, your key responsibilities will be to:

• support the end-to-end clinical trial process, assisting with the planning, initiation, and execution of trials, and ensuring smooth operations

• provide clinical care within scope of registration and professional practice, as required under the study protocol

• capture data and verification for clinical trials, maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with regulations, in accordance with ethics guidelines and workplace health and safety regulations, preparing materials for committee submissions

• build productive relationships with research staff, trial sponsors, and external vendors, facilitating effective communication and collaboration

• uphold the principles of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) in all clinical trials, ensuring that ethical and scientific quality standards are met in design, conduct, recording, and reporting

• support stakeholder communications, ensuring that concerns are addressed effectively and timely while fostering a culture of trust and collaboration within the work area and beyond

• facilitate timely report submission, uphold data integrity according to university systems, and partner with managers to advance compliance initiatives

• use critical thinking and problem solving to analyse midwifery practice to provide safe, appropriate and responsive quality support to research trial participants. Respond effectively to emergency situations and the change status of patients as required

• champion a proactive approach to health and safety, review and provide feedback on work area protocols, and collaborate cross-functionally to ensure consistent safety standards across tasks and projects.

About you

We are seeking an exceptional Clinical Research Midwife, who possesses:

• tertiary qualifications in a relevant field and/or equivalent experience in midwifery practice

• current Registered Midwife with APHRA with post graduate midwifery experience.

• previous experience in research with a focus on management of clinical studies/trials

• demonstrated commitment to professional development

• an understanding of issues related to adverse obstetric outcomes: particularly in relation to fetal growth restriction, pre-eclampsia, preterm delivery and stillbirth

• experience with antenatal patient interaction

• demonstrated understanding and experience in complying with Good Clinical Practice, regulatory, ethical, privacy and other relevant guidelines.

• demonstrated experience working across multidisciplinary teams and ability to build effective relations with colleagues and stakeholders

• excellent time and workload management skills with demonstrated ability to prioritise effectively, manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines and achieve required outcomes

• possess excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills and a demonstrated level of tact and discretion in dealing with day to day operational matters

• experience using RedCap software for data capture

• understanding of research ethics and relevant aspects of Work Health and Safety Policy.
