Job Description:
This role is for an experienced Senior Engineer within a CARS (Cognitive Agentic & Robotic Services) DevOps squad, responsible for migrating Mars’ most complex automations and re-usable components from Automation Anywhere to open-source Python on the Convergence home-grown platform. The Senior Software Engineer builds and migrates high-complexity use cases, reviews the work of junior engineers, and uses AI-assisted development to deliver at pace without sacrificing quality, supportability or audibility. The role is central to one of the core enablers of Mars’ digital strategy – a modern, pro-code automation platform that drives efficiency, resilience, and cost savings across hundreds of business processes. The Senior Software Engineer sets the quality bar in day-to-day delivery, making sure new and migrated automations are correct, tested, supportable and audit-ready. The role operates within a CARS DevOps squad in Brazil or GCC India, reporting to the Senior Manager, CARS, with technical direction from the squad’s Senior Software Architect and the CARS Senior Engineering Lead. The Senior Software Engineer is a hands-on technical leader within the squad and a first point of escalation for junior engineers. The associate works in an Agile delivery model where AI-assisted development is a core part of the workflow, paired with rigorous review and verification. Technology scope includes but is not limited to: Python, Git, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, SQL Server, AI coding assistants, Automation Anywhere (source platform being retired), and the Convergence home-grown platform.
Migration & Development
Migrate and rebuild the highest-complexity automation use cases from Automation Anywhere to Python on the Convergence platform.
Use AI coding assistants to accelerate development, then critically review, test, and harden generated code so it behaves identically to the original.
Build new automations and shared libraries that raise the productivity of the whole squad.
Decompose legacy bots into clear specifications and reusable patterns that others can follow.
Quality & Code Review
Review code from T1 engineers and enforce CARS coding, testing, and audit standards before changes are merged.
Design and implement automated test coverage that proves equivalence between migrated and legacy automations, including edge cases.
Produce and maintain the test evidence required to meet ITGC audit standards.
Catch subtly wrong AI-generated output that a junior engineer may miss, and coach the team on how to spot it and improve automated standards to prevent recurrence.
Support & Operations
Resolve complex production issues escalations and keep critical automations running.
Improve monitoring, logging, and resilience of automations on the Convergence platform.
Collaboration & Mentoring
Mentor engineers and pair with them on complex or audit-sensitive work.
Contribute to squad ceremonies, code reviews, and continuous improvement of the CARS development framework.
Document automations, patterns, and decisions to support handoff, scalability, and audit.
Required:
4+ years of professional software engineering with strong, production-grade Python
Working knowledge of object-oriented programming
Proven track record migrating, refactoring, or rebuilding complex codebases
Strong testing discipline and the ability to prove that code behaves correctly
Skill at reading, reviewing, and repairing code written by others, including AI-generated code
Hands-on experience running software in production, including monitoring, incident response, and operational support
Familiarity and comfort with SQL
Solid experience with version control (Git) and CI/CD
Strong problem-solving skills and sound engineering judgment
Fluent English (written and verbal) – required for global collaboration
Preferred:
Experience migrating RPA automations (Automation Anywhere, UiPath, or Blue Prism) to code
Hands-on use of AI coding assistants (Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Gemini, Claude)
Experience mentoring or leading junior engineers
Cloud platform experience (Azure or GCP)
